Go to Greater Heights for SeafarersOn 5–6 July, take on our flagship event, the 24 Peaks Challenge, and push your limits in support of seafarers and their families. Covering 33 miles and 13,000 ft of ascent in the stunning Lake District, this two-day endurance challenge is as tough as it is rewarding. Choose from Gold (24 Peaks), Silver (21 Peaks), or Bronze (7 Peaks + paddleboarding) and help make a difference in seafarers’ lives. The session focused on collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and future skills, with Her Royal Highness gaining valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. At The Seafarers' Charity, we are proud to be a member of Maritime UK, enabling us to play an active role in shaping the future of the maritime industry and ensuring that the welfare and safety of seafarers remain a priority. National Fishing Remembrance Day 2025National Fishing Remembrance Day, on Sunday 11 May 2025, is a time to reflect on the lives lost in the fishing industry and raise awareness of the dangers of this crucial yet hazardous profession. It’s a day to honour the men and women who risk their lives at sea to provide seafood for the nation. This day also serves as an opportunity to focus on improving safety practices within the industry to prevent future tragedies. We encourage everyone to get involved. Supporting the Next Generation of Maritime ProfessionalsAt The Seafarers' Charity, we are proud to fund initiatives that provide young people with the tools and opportunities to build successful careers in the maritime and fishing industries. Through our funding and partnerships, we strive to eliminate financial barriers and nurture the next generation of talent. Check out our latest blog to learn about the organisations we’ve supported and the real impact they’re making. Empowering Women in Maritime: Celebrating IWD 2025At The Seafarers’ Charity, we are committed to ensuring that the welfare and support needs of women at sea are recognised and addressed. On International Women's Day 2025, we celebrated their vital contributions and reaffirmed our dedication to advancing equity. Through funding research into women’s experiences on cargo ships and supporting initiatives that promote psychological safety, mentorship, and wellbeing, we are proud to drive the acceleration of progress for women at sea. Empowering the next generation of seafarers in the West of ScotlandThis month, we’re highlighting the Clyde Coastal Training Scheme, a program that is empowering the next generation of seafarers in the West of Scotland. Thanks to our funding, the scheme has opened life-changing opportunities for individuals like Harry, who, with no prior fishing experience, gained vital certifications and secured a paid placement. Our support has helped expand the program, providing essential training, hands-on experience, and guidance to local people, particularly those who might not have considered a career at sea. |
