NWTD News - April 2025 The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240 km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network. The developments will support our renewable energy future. Watch explainer video Lodgement of NWTD Permit ApplicationThank you to community members and landholders who visited our drop-in sessions at Bracknell, Burnie, Sheffield and Deloraine over the past month to find out more about the lodgement of a permit application for the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) to the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC). Lodged on 17 April, the permit application is an important step as it will allow NWTD to be formally assessed before TasNetworks can proceed to the construction phase. As part of this process, the TPC will place the permit application on public exhibition at which time there will be further opportunity for community members to have their say. We will continue to keep landholders, community members and stakeholders up to date through the approvals process. For further information and resources please visit the NWTD Planning and Approvals webpage on the TasNetworks website. ![]() Easter Fun - Community spirit shines at RAW Easter Egg HuntThe Bracknell community had a fantastic day at the Rural Alive & Well (RAW) Easter Egg Hunt in April. TasNetworks was delighted to once again partner with RAW to host this wonderful event, promoting social connection and fostering resilient communities. Junior participants enjoyed jumping on our renewable electricity bike, pedalling hard to light up Tasmania’s transmission network map, while the Easter Bunny ensured there were plenty of delicious chocolate eggs for everyone. Our team had the tough job of judging the TasNetworks hard hat colouring-in competition, with children submitting beautiful and creative entries! Kudos to the RAW team for their incredible work supporting rural communities across Tasmania. ![]() Eagle nest aerial inspections for NWTDOver the next few weeks, we will be conducting eagle nest aerial inspections to locate wedge-tailed eagle and white-bellied sea eagle nests in the vicinity of the proposed NWTD route. TasNetworks uses standardised eagle nest survey methods guided by the Forest Practices Authority. Whilst helicopter surveying can be disruptive, it is essential that we locate the nests as it is crucial for gathering information to assist with the planning and scheduling of construction activities. TasNetworks avoid placing infrastructure where nests are located and use survey results to plan construction activities so that disturbing the eagles is avoided, particularly during breeding season. Precautionary protocols are followed, and surveys are conducted outside of the breeding season to minimise impacts on eagles, with any new eagle nests located registered in the Tasmanian Natural Values Atlas database. ![]() Power up with TasNetworks at AgfestWe’re proud to be part of Agfest again this year!
