Celebrating 500 years! On Monday, we kicked off our 500th anniversary celebrations with a spectacular concert at the stunning Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.Choosing just one image from the concert to feature at the top of today's newsletter was almost impossible! In the end, I hope you enjoy this photo of Old Sedberghian Joe de Groot, who graduated last July and is now studying at the Juilliard School of Music. It was both a delight and an honour to have him join other notable OS performers at the concert. A complete wrap-up of the event, including the programme and a full recording, is available online. We are thrilled that Sedbergh is building a strong reputation for debating—our team has secured a place in the North West Final of the English-Speaking Union Schools' Mace. This competition, involving around 300 schools annually, is the largest school debating contest in England and Wales. This week, pupils took on the fifth and final race of the Epic Series, an invaluable training ground for the Wilson Run in March and the many other challenging running events on the school calendar (see the sports report for details). Over the five weekly Epic runs, pupils covered an impressive 70.7km with a staggering 2,125m of elevation—to put that into context, Ben Nevis, the UK's tallest mountain, stands at 1,345m! A History of Sedbergh in 50 Objects: #5 Evans HouseEach of the 50 objects represents a key moment in Sedbergh’s history. When Headmaster Christopher Hull (1782–1799) began accepting pupils into his private home—now part of Evans House—for 'bed and board,' he extended the school’s reach beyond those living within an easy day’s commute. What began as a financial necessity ultimately transformed the school from a small, local, day school into a distinguished boarding school, known for its high standards and attracting students from far and wide. Countdown to the Wilson Run![]() Sedbergh on Tour: Celebrate with us in HarrogateWe would like to invite prospective parents to meet with us in Harrogate to help celebrate our 500 year anniversary at the Sedbergh On Tour event in Harrogate on Tuesday 25th February.
