Two weeks to go!

There’s less than two weeks to go until you arrive in York! It’s time to talk about what your College has to offer, what to expect on arrivals day, and what happens during your welcome week.

What your college has to offer

All colleges offer the opportunity to play sport, stand for election, volunteer, organise events or just relax, socialise and meet new people. All of this is facilitated by your College Team and elected student committee in collaboration with YUSU, our Students' Union

College events and activities

All colleges host a wide range of regular online and in-person events for everyone to get involved. They’re a great way of meeting like-minded students, while developing your skills and interests.

From competing in cross-college competitions to taking part in a gaming night, an art workshop or a movie night; there’s something for everyone.

Your College Committee

Each year, all our undergraduate colleges elect a student committee to represent you and your community as well as organising a huge range of events and community building activities.

This year’s committee has been busy arranging your wonderful welcome week events. Make sure to say hi to them during move-in and throughout the week as they’re here to support you and your new community

Arrivals day

We’re really looking forward to meeting you very soon!

Your official college move in day will be Saturday 24 September 2022.

Please make sure to arrive during your designated time slot, as this helps us to better manage the number of students moving in at a time. More information on these times can be found in our previous email (linked at the bottom of this message), or via our arrival web pages below.

Important update: Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, please be aware that Monday 19 September will be considered a bank holiday in the UK, and bank holiday hours may apply on travel and other services, including University food outlets. The University will remain open over this period, and undergraduate arrivals weekend will continue as planned.

We are not anticipating this will affect any travel arrangements, however, if you are travelling into or around the UK on this date, we recommend you check your travel arrangements before starting your journey.

If you are unsure about anything, or have concerns about travel, please get in touch with your college team by replying to this email.

STYCs and STYMs

As soon as you arrive, you’ll be greeted by your STYCs and STYMs. Your STYCs (Second and Third Year Contacts) will be here throughout Welcome Week, letting you know more about the College and York. If you’ve got any questions while moving in, they’ll be happy to help.

STYMs (Second and Third Year Mentors) are here for you throughout your entire first year. They will make sure to check in with you and your flat, offering helpful advice and support.

Freshers’ Week Activities

After you’ve settled in, there is a packed week of events and activities to get involved with, where you’ll meet new people and make the most of your new community.

To make sure that you’ve got access to all our fantastic events, you can purchase your Freshers Week ticket below by selecting your college from the official YUSU website:

Unfortunately, a number of fake pages and social media accounts attempt to target incoming students each year. Please be aware that the only University-endorsed events are those offered on our website and by our Student Unions (YUSU and GSA).

We’re making the finishing touches to these events and will be able to share them with you very soon. To keep up to date and find out more, join our official Freshers’ group:
