Our Presidents Response to Wes Streeting’s NHS Audit

What were your thoughts on Wes Streeting's NHS Audit?

If you haven't seen it already, Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, has ordered a full and independent investigation into the state of the NHS, to uncover the extent of the issues facing the nation’s health service.

Our President, Dr Alex Maxwell, has provided a response to this -

"Its focus on productivity and efficiency is essential, yet it must encompass a broader perspective that includes preventing and managing avoidable chronic diseases."

Have you forwarded this to your MP yet?

The 2024 General Election is a very important event for future healthcare in the UK. We all know that the National Health Service is under continual pressure just as our healthcare workers are under pressure.

Our message to the future government sets our why Lifestyle Medicine is so important to patients, professionals, and the future of healthcare. We have increasing economic data to show it is good for health systems, for patients, for healthcare professionals, for achieving healthcare equity, and so a future government must lever resources to support further investment in developing lifestyle medicine to maintain or support our citizens into good health, to support our ailing NHS.

BiteBack are Calling on Keir Starmer

After the General Election, our new Government is beginning to set out its plans. As the Government is new, this is the best time to push for change, so Bite Back are sending a letter to the Prime Minister, asking him to meet with them so we can share our lived experiences.

The general election is the perfect stage for those 18 and over to have their voice heard, and have a direct impact on politics, but this doesn’t mean that the voices of young people under 18 aren’t equally important. BiteBack's advocates are working for change, and they want to be the young people in the new Government’s vision of the ‘healthiest generation of children ever’. Everyone has had their vote in the election, and now we’re sharing the same chance to make your voice heard in our campaign.

Have a look at their letter and more below.

Our monthly Live Well Update

With the Live Well East Lothian Team

Funding Won for Live Well East Lothian

This month Live Well East Lothian was successful in their application to the National Lottery – ‘Awards for All Community Fund’ and received a very generous grant of £10,000!
This is excellent news for the charity and means we will be able to keep supporting our wonderful community, whist also investing more time and resources to reach those in East Lothian who might benefit from attending some of our classes. We hope this and future funding will also help us grow and expand the class timetable to follow local demand.

Thank you so much to the National Lottery team for investing in the health and well-being of East Lothian residents, not only helping them stay fit and well but also allowing them to stay independent in their own homes and form new friendships when socialising during and after class.
