THE DESIGN NARRATIVE: Perched on a hillside overlooking Mt. Tamalpais, just 15 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, this home offers a tranquil retreat from urban life. Designed by architect Lauren Goldman and interior designers Daryl Serrett and Kiara Thompson, it seamlessly blends serene, meditative spaces with chic, vibrant entertaining areas reminiscent of San Francisco's trendy brasseries and clubs. Inspired by iconic mid-century modern design, the home caters to sophisticated clients who crave city living, brought to life by Gregory Cook of Cook Construction.
THREE-FOLD GOAL:
THE PROCESS: Fully reimagining the house, the team stripped it down, expanded in multiple directions, and introduced expansive, glass-filled spaces offering mountain views from almost every room. Challenges from past renovations, like dual foundations, were addressed, and deep foundation work tackled the steep site. Raising the ceilings from eight to ten feet transformed the interior, catering to their 6’7” client. The home's open living areas effortlessly connect to the spacious outdoors, featuring natural wood and stone elements that complement the lush surroundings. Exquisite coffered ceilings and glass walls in the dining room enhance the connection with the outdoors.
The interior showcases originality and meticulous attention to detail, blending eclectic elements seamlessly. Complementary curved and geometric forms mingle with organic materials like wood, glass, and stone, alongside vibrant finishes and furnishings. Each space features unique pops of color, from the kitchen's bold palette to the entry's graphic walls and cobalt blue cabinets. The bar, inspired by the Berkeley Bar in London, boasts dimensional tiles by Linda Fahey, while custom metalwork by Mary Revelli enhances the beauty of Waterworks fixtures. Sculptural furnishings, including an Italian dining table and Finn Juhl chairs, add both style and function, while custom rugs from Stark Carpet bring warmth and visual interest to the stone floors.
