We welcome the news that Armaguard has now secured over $50 million in funding, securing the company and workers' jobs for at least the next 12 months. Now we need to see a commitment from banks and retailers to properly fund cash-in-transit for as long as cash is in circulation in Australia. The union's newly-elected assistant national secretary, Emily McMillan, observed that multi-employer bargaining had begun between the TWU and ground handling companies, when she addressed ACTU Congress in Adelaide earlier this month. She said the recent changes to IR laws would help unions but the "task of removing the Qantas model remains an enormous one", ahead of the Congress passing a policy motion sponsored by the TWU and ASU calling for the creation of a Safe and Fair Skies Commission.
