Bob Wachter and Kiran Gupta publish the 3rd Edition of Understanding Patient Safety. This version of the landmark patient safety primer now includes pivotal new developments in the field, including major updates in diagnostic errors, information technology, patient safety, ambulatory safety, and clinician burnout.
Stephanie Rennke, Brad Monash, and Adeena Khan published an article on a shared decision making model for hospitalists in JHM.
Madhavi Dandu and her team studied the health effects of "non-lethal" crowd control weapons and found that the morbidity and mortality from expected and unexpected use is higher than usually quoted.
DHM Patient and Family Advisory Council
We need your help recruiting patients, families, and caregivers for the Division of Hospital Medicine Patient and Family Advisory Council!
Criteria for potential membership include:
1. Experience on the UCSF Medicine Service (1 or more contacts with care)
2. Patients who have had a good or bad experience
3. For patients who do not speak English, a family member or friend who can translate with them
Please have a low threshold to refer patients to us! Ideally, let the patient or caregiver know that we will be contacting them and if at all possible give them one of our information/contact cards (now available in the nurse charting rooms on 14 and 15 and the Goldman Room in M1520).
If you think someone would be a good candidate – even if you don’t get a chance to speak with them about it, please provide us with their name and contact information and we’ll take it from there!
