TAMPA TEACHER PRESERVES FAMILY MEMORIES

LUTZ, FL - A Hillsborough County Public School teacher and small business owner is excited to announce his first book, available now. With a blending of motivational genealogy, heartfelt stories, and technical know-how, author Jason W. Levy’s “Your Family Memories Preserved” delves into the importance of preserving memories and tradition to the family unit

“As far as we know, human beings are the only creatures to recognize our own mortality,” Levy explains. “Perhaps, one of our greatest fears is that we will be forgotten; our stories, adventures, experiences, lessons learned, even our names fading away, becoming a distant memory.” His book offers solutions for preserving the living memories of family elders. Those with dementia and terminal end-of-life patients may also have personal stories they want to preserve for their families. While he emphasizes that he’s not a medical professional, Levy does provide researched insight into the progression of dementia and how Reminiscence Therapy (RT) has been shown to help those suffering from the ailment. Advice for conducting compassionate RT style interviews are provided, including some suggested questions.

Featuring cover art by one of Levy’s graduating students, the book additionally addresses the deterioration, organization, and preservation of special memories that may be artificially stored on obsolete media, such as fading photographs and vanishing videos. The book also explains the magic of creating a keepsake video for future generations. For those who may be overwhelmed by a do-it-yourself approach, the book concludes with a list of national businesses and professional organizations that can aid the reader.

For nearly two decades, Levy has taught Social Studies at Gaither, Steinbrenner, and Chamberlain High Schools. Early in 2020, he started a video transfer business, and—despite the pandemic that immediately followed—Your Family Movie LLC grew from a home-based operation into one that occupies it’s own professional office space. It’s perfect for people who are reluctant to ship their memories to an anonymous website. In 2021, he won both the marketing and a video editing awards from the national Home Video Studio network, but he is especially proud of the company’s perfect Five-Star Google Rating. Originally from Long Island, NY, Levy and his wife have called the Tampa Bay area home since 1995. He has two grown children, two cats, and an unknown number of tropical fish and shrimp. He’s a lover of Star Trek, dad jokes, and off-the-beaten-path museums.
