Dr Yin Yin Zaw is currently the Vice President of the Shwe Yaung Hnin Si Cancer Foundation (one of Myanmar's leading non-profit cancer organisations), whilst also sitting on a collection of professional medical committees in Myanmar. Prior to her retirement, Dr Zaw was the head of the obstetrics and gynaecology department at the Defence Services Medical Academy, and a senior consultant at the Defence Services Obstetrics, Gynaecological and Children’s Hospital. Cervical cancer prevention in Myanmar: progress and challengesThe Shwe Yaung Hnin Si Cancer Foundation was established in 2013, with a vision toward the prevention and early detection of cancers. Since cervical cancer is preventable, one of the foundation projects has been to screen and provide immediate treatment free of charge to targeted community members. National guidelines were established in 2018, and phase 1 is to implement screening with VIA followed by cryotherapy and HPV DNA testing when available. The Foundation has screened thousands of women in various parts of Myanmar.
