Williamsport Area Motorsports Artist:
Simon WardIf any of you were at the banquet and noticed the puzzles at the raffle station, they were puzzles based on paintings done by a British artist, Simon Ward. He’s residing in Williamsport, and made friends with my Dad. Simon reached out to me because he knows I’m involved in motorsports, and I wanted to pass his information along. Here are the photos he’s done in the past. He is available to work on commission if anyone is interested. Here’s a few links for him, and his email address is: simon46ward@gmail.com
Car Club at Local High School Wants our Help
I had a local high school teacher reach out to me, as he runs a car club. He asked if our club would be interested in coming to the school at 2pm on a weekday and talk to the students about their cars.
I only just heard from him this week, so I don’t have any specific plans yet, but if you’d be interested in bringing your car on a weekday, can you email me so I have an idea of how many cars we’d potentially have? I am also working on getting their club to come out to some of our events this season too - so I’ll keep
everyone posted as I know more.

Autocross Like a Champ in Street TouringMAR 12, 2024 — Let’s get this out of the way from the beginning: Street category classes in SCCA® Autocross are some of the most competitive, fun, and easiest classes to get into. Also, in an odd way, they’re some of the most challenging to get right. But (and there’s always a “but”) when it comes to bolt-on performance, most racers can’t help themselves. Rare is the competitor who has the discipline to leave their car alone – and that’s where SCCA’s Street
Touring™ category comes in. One of the most popular categories in SCCA’s Solo® program, Street Touring lives in that fantastic space that allows some modifications, without the need or the budget to get in too deep. Many of the allowed modifications in the Street Touring category come in the suspension, which, of course, makes a dramatic improvement in the ability to get around an autocross course.
Hagerty: Top Under-the-Radar Motorsports Events You Should AttendMAR 19, 2024 — Hagerty, largely known for its collectors car insurance as well as on-track insurance for SCCA’s Time Trials and Track Night in America events, is into car culture. As such, writers for the company’s content arm – Hagerty.com/media – are plugged into what’s beyond the average knowledge. For instance, everyone knows about the Indy 500, Daytona 500, Rolex 24, Petit Le Mans, and the like, but there are amateur motorsports gems that car enthusiasts might not be aware of – a topic recently tackled by Hagerty’s team.Written by Kyle Smith, an article entitled “5 Under-the-Radar Motorsports Events You Should Attend” dives into this exact subject. His reasoning for writing the article now? “It’s...the time of year when many motorsports venues announce their
schedules, so now is the perfect time to pick something and start making a plan for how to make it happen,” he writes.
4 Things RallyCross Drivers Need in the PaddockMAR 20, 2024 — Low grip surface, dirt rooster tails, slipping and sliding action: What’s not to love about SCCA® RallyCross®? Described by some as “autocross in the dirt” (which isn’t accurate, although it offers a solid foundation to give you the gist of the sport), this single car timed trip around a
coned unpaved course will leave your car covered in dirt while planting a massive smile on your face. RallyCross events are generally held in large open fields with the course delineated by orange cones (similar to autocross). Because there are no physical obstacles (think: trees), RallyCross is an extremely accessible sport for anyone with a car (your daily driver will suffice), a Snell rated helmet (generally speaking, both M and SA rated helmets will work, although you should read the rules), and (generally speaking...once again, check the rules) a state-issued driver’s
license.
Women on Track Showcase: Week 3MAR 22, 2024 — As has become tradition, the SCCA Women on Track Initiative is celebrating Women’s History Month by showcasing women from all across the SCCA during March. Some of these women blazed the path for others behind the wheel, while many have left their marks or continue to inspire women in leadership and support roles. Profiles are posted daily on the SCCA Women on Track Facebook Page, and a weekly wrap-up will be available on SCCA.com and the SCCA Women on Track webpage. For questions about the SCCA Women on Track initiative or to get involved, visit their webpage. Submit your profile details or those of a woman in your life to be featured in future posts and showcases by filling out the form.
