Leaders of Color Summit Session
Join the Planning Committee!

Members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community on campuses and in communities are invited to join the planning committee to plan a Summit session for the 2023 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit.  The development of the planning committee, and the work of co-developing a Climate Leadership Summit session aims to bring this community together to create and build long-lasting and meaningful relationships during the Climate Leadership Summit and beyond.

As a Climate Programs Manager for the southeast region with explicit focus on authentic engagement with HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and MSIs (Minority Serving Institutions), Blythe Coleman-Mumford is championing the creation of a Summit session for, and led by, leaders of color and members of the BIPOC community.

Higher education institutions play a crucial role in preparing future leaders to adapt to, and help solve, the climate crisis. Rising college/university-aged students demonstrate intense interest in social justice issues, civic engagement, and climate change. This interest factors into school choice and can translate into campus sustainability movements, such as fossil fuel divestment campaigns.

Activating this powerful student energy allows universities, as cultivators of future climate leaders, to have an impact both locally and globally.

Join us as we bring together young leaders, organizers, and educators from the climate movement and hold space for real, vulnerable, courageous conversation and storytelling.

Second Nature Team Update

Pulling the Implementer newsletter together every month for the past three years, I've gotten used to making the announcements of Second Nature team members coming onboard and when they move onto other opportunities.  It is bittersweet to now be penning my own!

After three wonderful years at the Second Nature organization, as of October 5th, I will be leaving the team to take on another opportunity.  To those who I have had the privilege to work with - fellow Second Nature team members, partners, higher education climate leaders, and others - I have enjoyed and appreciated getting to do so.  Your passion and dedication to this work is what will continue to be the difference over the coming years in this climate effort.  Thank you for everything you have done and continue doing.  Until another time!

- Amanda Belles

Continuing to accelerate climate action while also enduring a global pandemic, is not something any of us could have foreseen prior to 2020.  However, "pausing" on our collective climate action was not an option; the consequences were to dire.
