CESSMIR second conference - 19-21/9

Contemporary forms of racism and discrimination

CESSMIR’s second conference opens up an exchange platform for researchers, practitioners and policy makers working in the broad field of migration, integration and ethnic-cultural diversity. They are invited to share their questions and expertise on understanding and responding to contemporary forms of racism and discrimination from a broad, interdisciplinary approach.

With experts working in different domains of society, including education, employment, health care, housing, media, deviance and crime, architecture, family, child support and social work, CESSMIR actively seeks contributions that speak to different audiences, but with a commonly shared focus on social exclusion.

European and African Perspectives on Migration and Democracy

Debate at VUB - 19/9

This debate will provide young migrant scholars and activists from the Global South to present their perspectives on migration and democracy. While the topic has long been capturing headlines, the voices of African experts all too often receive not enough attention. What is their view on the EU’s externalization strategies? To what extent do democracy (or the lack thereof) and migration actually relate to one another? How to position vis-à-vis controversial agreements such as the UK-Rwanda deal to transfer asylum seekers to the African state? What do African activists and migration scholars suggest regarding the cooperation with the EU on migration issues in general?

Call for Erasmus+ Projects

Virtual Exchanges in Higher Education and Youth - deadline 20/9

Virtual exchange projects are online people-to-people activities for young people. The exchanges enable international and cross-cultural education, both formal and informal, without physical mobility. The projects therefore facilitate and increase the participation of organisations and individuals in international education experiences.

All projects should involve organisations and participants coming from EU member States and/or third countries associated to the Erasmus+ Programme on the one hand, and third countries not associated to the Programme on the other hand.

There are five eligible regions, among which Sub-Saharan Africa.

This is een open call – deadline 20 September 2022.

The 8th Biennial Afroeuropeans Network Conference “Intersectional Challenges in Afroeuropean Communities” will take place from 22 – 24 September 2022.

The conference aims to consider how Afroeuropean communities are shaped by the intersections of ‘race’ and ethnicity with other markers of identification such as gender, class, sexuality, ability, age, citizenship status, language…

Of particular interest are the multiple ways in which Afroeuropeans challenge dominant modes of representation and knowledge production, for instance by claiming space and citizenship, altering taken-for-granted modes of knowing and organizing, and presenting their experiences and perspectives as part and parcel of European society and identity.
