Virtual discussions about data sovereignty & decolonizing ethnobiology - 1, 7, 21/6/2023

ADIE (Allies for Diverse and Inclusive Ethnobiology) is inviting you to discussions and planning meetings on innovations and knowledge sovereignty in publishing ethnobiology. These will be informal conversations around several core topics including:

  • How can ethnobiology publications/ archives support data sovereignty initiatives from/for communities of knowledge origin? What does this look like?
  • Many disciplines (e.g., biology, ecology, conservation) are increasingly recognizing the importance of Indigenous and local knowledge. Is ethnobiology well-situated to lead a shift in the way research is controlled, shared and accessed by origin communities and the general public? How to forge lasting connections w/ current leaders in this space, such as w/ Indigenous Studies action research?
  • Is there energy/ impetus to create an informal working group on this topic and, for example, strategize together for a LEAPS NSF proposal over the coming year?
