Note from the REJust a quick one from me this month. I just want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for a great season and wonderful year so far. I’m thankful for all of you and I hope you have a great holiday with your friends and family. Keep it Classy Susquehanna,
Melissa
From the Editor's DeskHappy Conesgiving! We're closing out a real nail-biter of a season, with great performances from seasoned vets and novices alike. I try to keep my personal life out of these newsletters, but the question has come up a lot: What's it like having a wife who's faster than you, on a nearly identical platform? Let me tell you all, it's fantastic. I've been giving her all the same advice that was given to me, every little tip I can in order to help her get faster, and she's implementing them
better than I ever have. Helping one another get faster is the spirit of the club, and that's what makes us one of the best things about motorsports. I think just about all of us have at least one person we look up to in the club, and my personal favorite thing is when my times start to look similar to some of those people I look up to. I'm thankful for the program organizers, the sponsors, the board, and all of you. Here's to the next season, when we get to have more #FunWithCars together. Your RE isn't the only one with a snazzy signoff. When in doubt - throttle out
(until it spins, then both feet in),
Jake

Paralyzed Veteran Helps Others Go RacingNOV 11, 2022 — Dillon Cannon is no average SCCA member. Serving as an Army Specialist in Iraq, Cannon’s life changed forever on Dec. 29, 2006. "I got shot in the neck by a sniper," Cannon told KTRK-TV, an ABC affiliate in Houston, TX. "[A] bullet entered the front of my throat and exited the back. Whenever it entered my body, it missed all my arteries, hit my C6 and C7 vertebrae, shattered
both of those vertebrae, and the bone fragments hit my spinal cord and caused it to swell, which left me paralyzed from mid-chest down."
WoT Assists in Farret’s First Runoffs AdventureNOV 8, 2022 — Washington DC Region worker Vanessa Farret had never attended the SCCA National Championship Runoffs before, let alone volunteered during SCCA’s weeklong road racing championship event – something she wanted to change. Thanks to an SCCA Women on Track (WoT) scholarship, Vanessa was presented with $500 to assist with her Runoffs expenses, suddenly making that trek a reality. Even then, she had no idea what the week held in store.Things are never simple at the SCCA Runoffs – something this year’s Sept. 24-Oct. 2 Runoffs at VIRginia International Raceway took to heart. Weather challenged the event’s drivers, crew, and workers from day one, swinging from warm to pleasant to borderline insane as the remnants of Hurricane Ian blew through. Still, Vanessa had a blast.
Region Development Grant’s November Deadline NearsNOV 3, 2022 — The deadline for the second SCCA Foundation Region Development Grant is Nov 30, 2022, meaning SCCA Regions that have been deferring growth opportunities for financial reasons should apply soon in order to be considered for this round of grant opportunities. Multiple worthy applications for the first SCCA Foundation Region Development Grant were received prior to its Aug. 31
deadline, with the Foundation currently determining which SCCA Region will receive that round of funding. More details regarding the previous grant will be available soon.
500 Mile Wrap-Up: Detroit Region’s Successful ’22 USRRCNOV 9, 2022 — For the second time this decade, the Detroit Region hosted the annual United States RoadRally Challenge (USRRC), returning the now 27-year-old event to the rural roads of a picturesque five-county Great Lakes area southwest of the Motor City. Similar to 2020, the event featured National RoadRallies on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, 2022, and a Divisional contest on
Sunday, Nov. 6. Added together, the three rallies, Hell and Back, Are You Territorial, and Pavement Ends, offered just over 500 miles of rallying and 166 checkpoints at which teams needed to be exactly on time, not early, not late. Yes, teams had to keep their wits about them and their pencils sharp.
