JOTTINGS OF
A PERSONAL JEWELLERFEBRUARY 2026 NEWSLETTER
Hello! Welcome to my February newsletter... already the year appears to have taken off! Can you believe we are into February already? The precious metal prices continue to increase, quite dramatically in some cases. So if you have any scrap gold, silver or platinum, or anything else in the jewellery or silver world for that matter that you are looking to sell, now wouldn’t be a bad time. For example, over the last year the price of scrap silver in US$ has increased by around
260%!! Whereas a silver teapot and trophy a client asked me to sell a few months ago would in years gone by maybe have achieved $1,000 if scrapped, this delighted client received $2,600!
I find I am being given a lot of lovely jewels to sell, and one slightly more unusual one this time is a classic all 18ct white gold charm bracelet by Cartier. It features six various charms also by Cartier, with some Diamond set, in its original box. With an independent valuation at the time of writing this newsletter in excess of $35,000, I think it represents great buying at $18,500.
Of course February is Valentine's month (why just settle on one day?!) for the partner you love, so as romance and pink are colours associated with love, why not consider my Morganite “Tablet” necklace which looks so good on!
My first interview with Trevor Chappell for 2026 took place at 2:45am on Wednesday of last week... goodness after the hot day and night beforehand was I in the mood for that or what!! As usual though, Trevor and I had a lot of fun and the questions and pieces that continue to be texted in by the insomniacs of this country well and truly kept me on my toes! If you do happen to be awake at 2:45am on the third Wednesday of each month for the rest of 2026, then please listen to your local ABC Radio across Australia. For those of you who are not, the interview is recorded and can also be found on my website. For the most recent interview please click here.
Fashion Soiree for Giant Steps
Finally, some of you may remember a couple of years ago a fashion parade kindly hosted by Morgan Stanley at 101 Collins Street. Featuring jewels by Circa AD Jewels, fashions by Perri
Cutten and in aid of a wonderful charity called Giant Steps. It was a fabulous evening and this year we are doing it again. For further details and to book your tickets head here. Be mindful places are strictly limited this time so book your tickets quickly as I suspect it will be a sellout.
So that’s it for this month. There’s more exciting events and happenings over the next few months, so watch this space.
Warmly,
