KILMORE BYPASS COMMUNITY FORUM

The Kilmore Bypass is one of the most urgently needed road and infrastructure projects in Mitchell Shire.

Hear about the status of the Kilmore Bypass and how Council plans to advocate for this vital project.

It's on Wednesday 28 September from 6.30pm to 8pm at Kilmore Soldiers Memorial Hall, 14 Sydney Street, Kilmore.

There has been insufficient progress to date, and Council is seeking the community’s support to help make this an achievable priority for the Victorian Government in the lead up to the 2022 State Election.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

A number of Council services will be closed or have reduced hours for the National Day of Mourning and AFL Grand Final public holidays on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 September.

  • Kerbside bin collection and Resource Recovery Centres - no change
  • Kilmore and Seymour Leisure Centres - open from 10am to 2pm
  • Council Offices and Customer and Library Service Centres - closed
  • Visitor Information Centre, Seymour - open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm and weekends 9.30am to 2.30pm including public holidays.

Our 24/7 after hours emergency service operates on public holidays and after hours for lost pets, contained dog pick-ups and urgent hazards such as trees on road or livestock on road. To access these services, please call 5734 6200.

For non-urgent hazards, please use the Report It tool on our website.

There is no change to kerbside bin collection for the AFL Grand Final public holiday on Friday 24 September.

 
 
RATES NOTICES Payment date extended
 

Rate notices have arrived in mailboxes and inboxes.

Due to some processing delays, they're a little bit later than usual.

If you normally pay four instalments, we've extended the payment date by two weeks to 14 October.

You can find out more about your rates and how to switch to e-notices on our website.

FLOOD MEETING Learn about possible flooding
 

The SES is holding a community meeting to provide information about the possible flood situation downstream of Lake Eildon and along the lower Goulburn River to Seymour this spring. 

Please bring your flood photos to copy and any flood knowledge to share. 

It's on Saturday 17 September from 10.30am to 11.30am at the Yea Town Hall, 27 High Street, Yea.

TALENT ON DISPLAY AT MITCHELL YOUTH FEST

Some serious talent was on show at the Mitchell Youth Fest skate competition. Congratulations to all the participants. 

There are plenty more events and activities happening across Mitchell Shire during Youth Fest, including free CPR training, yoga and drumming, a tribes day and more.

New Australian citizens with their certificates
MITCHELL WELCOMES NEW CITIZENS

Eighty five residents have officially become Australian citizens after they pledged their loyalty at Mitchell Shire Council’s citizenship ceremony at Broadford on Monday 12 September.

The ceremony saw individuals and entire families receive their citizenship in a ceremony conducted by Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm.

INPUT WANTED FOR CONSULTATIONS

We have a few consultations open at the moment, and we would like to hear your views and ideas. We're currently seeking input on:

Seymour Playground Improvements: Upgrades are planned for Graham Reserve, Heywood Hill Reserve and Generation Park and Council wants to hear from locals who use the play spaces. Submissions close Monday 26 September.

Anzac Avenue Masterplan: Mitchell Shire Council is developing a masterplan to improve the Anzac Avenue streetscape from the railway underpass to Delatite Road. Submissions close Friday 30 September.

Street renaming proposal - part of Ferguson Street, Broadford: We're proposing to rename part of Ferguson Street in Broadford on the western side of the railway line between Hamilton Street and Murchison Street. Submissions close Monday 3 October at 9am.

Community Satisfaction Survey: Over the next few weeks, community members may receive calls from National Field Services on behalf of Council. Calls will only come from a fixed line number, not a mobile phone and the caller will always identify themselves and who they are working for.

School holidays
 
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS Free holiday fun
 

There will be free school holiday activities at Mitchell Shire Libraries from 10am to 4pm including:

  • arts and craft tables
  • board games
  • make your own bath bombs

Activities are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday (excluding the public holiday) in Broadford, Seymour, Kilmore and Wallan.

Activities are only on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding the public holiday) in Beveridge.

Leisure Centres in Kilmore and Seymour are also open every day during the school holidays.

SENIORS FESTIVAL Free Country Concert
 

In celebration of the 2022 Victorian Seniors Festival, Mitchell Shire Council is once again proud to host the free Country Concert.

This year's concert features rockabilly legend Lonnie Lee.

It's on Tuesday October 11 from 11.15am to 1.15pm at the Broadford Hall, Murchison Street, Broadford.

COUNCIL MEETING Time changed
 

The next Council meeting will be held at 5pm on Monday 19 September. This is instead of the regular 7pm slot due to the state funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the same night.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber at Broadford Civic Centre (113 High Street).

There are several important things on the agenda including: 

  • Naming proposal - Jessie Lawrence Park
  • Planning permit application for a dwelling at 1 Barwon Drive, Wandong
  • Planning permit application for multiple dwellings at 19 Darraweit Road, Wallan
  • Notice of motion - fluoridisation of Mitchell Shire Council Water supplies - smaller communities 
  • Notice of motion - Anzac Avenue underpass, Seymour
