Dear Industry Partner, Yesterday, the Provincial Government announced amendments to the existing Short-Term Rental (STR) Legislation. The proposed changes will address many of TIANS’ concerns regarding STR exclusions that were contributing to an uneven playing field in the accommodation sector. Changes will now see registration required for all accommodation providers, including primary homeowners. This will support adherence to other relevant legislation, as well as provide a more comprehensive picture of inventory as it relates to the housing situation. This revised regulatory framework will create a consistent and fair policy and reduce the amount of unfair competition for legitimate tourism operators. As businesses prepare for reopening, advanced bookings appear strong, although we are reminded daily that we will continue to have challenges. Car rental availability, for example, is impacting bookings and increasing case counts of COVID will be part of our new normal. We have a number of programs and supports that can help ensure you are meeting global standards for service and quality. Doing things differently to help rebuild our Tourism Economy will be critical to our success as a destination. The newly launched ‘Now Hiring’ from our national partner at Tourism HR Canada is a terrific tool to support your HR efforts and our customized training support from NSTHRC will ensure you can get the training you need.
