Vol 28 No 01     02 Sept 2022

Welcome Back!

I hope all members of the school community enjoyed a restful and restorative break during the summer months.  We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming your sons and daughters back to The High School and wish them every success for the academic year 2022/23.

It has also been a pleasure to welcome Ms Deacon back to The High School in a full-time capacity.  Mr Walker retired with effect from August 2022; Ms Rellis, Mr Flaherty, and Ms O’Sullivan resigned from their positions at The High School.  We thank them for their excellent service and wish them all the best for the future.  We welcome the following new full-time staff to The High School: Mr Conroy - Irish; Ms Finnegan - Chemistry/Science/Mathematics; Ms Murdoch - Physical Education; and Mr Murphy - Irish.  We are fortunate in having the services of an excellent staff who are fully committed to providing the highest standards of academic and pastoral care for all pupils attending The High School.

I should like to take this opportunity on behalf of all members of staff to thank parents and guardians for the kind messages of support and encouragement received by my colleagues in 2021/22 which were greatly appreciated by all concerned.  We look forward to sharing the benefits of another happy and productive year with all of you during 2022/23.

Mr G A Forrest
Principal
The High School

Leaving Certificate Results

The Leaving Certificate results for the class of 2022 were announced today.  We wish all our recent past pupils every success and congratulate them on reaching this important milestone in their lives.   We wish them and their families every good wish for the future.

Athletics Ireland Representation

Congratulations to High School pupil Sean Aigboboh who represented Ireland at The English AAAs Championships in Bedford last weekend.  Sean had a very successful summer representing Leinster and Ireland earning relay and individual 100m medals.  Well done, Sean!
Ms Fallon

Ireland Touch Rugby Success

Congratulations to High School pupil Airmid Devitt O’Byrne who was selected for the Ireland Under 15s Mixed Touch Rugby team to play at Vichy in the European Junior Touch Championships 2022.  The team was delighted to win Bronze.  Well done Airmid!

High School Beehives

This summer we went from having one beehive to two, simply by splitting the hive.  We did not expect the bees to make excess honey this summer but they did! It is a small amount, around 5-6kg which will be available to taste during Biodiversity week, beginning on 19 September.  We plan to set up a honey extraction stall for all interested pupils and staff to try a stick of High School honey!  Next summer we hope to to double our apiary size once again to four hives, so hopefully there will be more honey days to come!
Mr Kingston

National Youth Orchestra

A number of our past and current pupils performed at the National Youth Orchestra's summer concert in the National Concert Hall recently.  Bravo!
