News from SCCA Spec MX-5 To Become SCCA Runoffs Class in 2024SEP 19, 2023 — The Mazda Spec MX-5 (SMX) car class, part of select SCCA® Road Racing events for several years, will be recognized as of Jan. 1, 2024, as an SCCA Road Racing Runoffs class. All SCCA U.S. Majors Tour® and Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour weekends will include an SMX class, and the group will have an official race at Road America in 2024 as a fully recognized National Championship Runoffs class. “The Club Racing Board [CRB] has been in contact with Mazda since they started developing this concept several years ago and believe that this class, with continued support from Mazda, has real potential in our road racing program,” said SCCA CRB Chairman John LaRue. “The CRB voted to recommend SMX be added to the General Competition Rules [GCR] as a Runoffs-eligible class for the coming year, and SCCA’s Board of Directors approved the recommendation during its August meeting. SCCA Time Trials or GridLife? Why Not Both?SEP 11, 2023 — SCCA® has long been both a pipeline and a destination for drivers, all depending on the participant’s ultimate goal. Meanwhile, numerous members have leapt back and forth between SCCA and other series. This has gone on for decades, and continues to this very day – just look at SCCA Time Trials competition. Some SCCA Time Trials participants have their sights set on GridLife TrackBattle as a goal, something that’s both realistic and achievable, as many GridLife drivers got their start in SCCA’s programs and continue to jump back and forth. (GridLife, it should be mentioned, is part of the North American Time Attack Council (NATA), with SCCA and Global Time Attack as the other members.) SCCA Chicago Region member Phil Jue takes his Nissan 350Z to any event he can reach from his home in Bourbonnais, IL, which includes success in GridLife’s TrackBattle as well as the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty, where he runs his car in Tuner 3. Double Your End-Of-Season Fun With Two More Solo National ToursSEP 21, 2023 — The 2023 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour kicked off in March with the Red Hills National Tour at South Georgia Motorsports Park – but did you know that the Solo National Championships, which took place Sept. 5-8 at Lincoln Airpark, wasn’t the end of the season? Luckily for everyone who can’t get enough autocross in their lives, there’s two more events to come – one in Oklahoma and the other in Georgia – which means there are two more opportunities to have fun while scoring points in the season-long points battle. First up in the final two is the Tire Rack SCCA Frederick Solo National Tour at Frederick Regional Airport in, you guessed it, Frederick, OK. This event takes place Oct. 20-22, with online registration closing on Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. CT. SCCA Women on Track Offers Three USRRC ScholarshipsSEP 14, 2023 — Have you been eyeing SCCA®’s Oct. 20-22, 2023, United States RoadRally Challenge® (USRRC) but have yet to click the register button because you don’t think you have the experience to run at that level? Have you heard of the Regional LITE RoadRallies that will be running alongside this year’s USRRC, offering three days of RoadRally challenges and adventure without the pressure of National competition? If you entered, will your driver or navigator (or both) be women? Could a $500 scholarship make your experience better? If the answer to all those questions is “yes,” we have a deal for you: SCCA Women on Track is offering three $500 scholarships to aid teams in their USRRC weekend adventure. This year’s USRRC will be hosted by Philadelphia and South Jersey Regions, with the events being a nice mix of Tour and Course rallies utilizing the Richta GPS app for scoring – meaning you needn’t have more than a data-enabled phone or tablet to be well equipped for this year’s USRRC. But new to the 2023 USRRC is the introduction of the Regional LITE, where each Rallymaster will provide the same route, yet with a different set of route instructions to navigate the course. ——— Sponsors ———2023 2023 Event ScheduleAutocross Dates: November 4-5 - Events 9, 10, 11 and the Match Tour Rallycross Dates:
