Welcome to the May edition of the Salamanca Market stallholder news Hi Everyone, Welcome to the latest edition of our stallholder newsletter. Included in this edition are some important reminders regarding stallholder trading conditions including adhering to pack up times and wearing your hi vis as the days are definitely getting shorter. We have also printed hard copies of the stallholder handbook and our fabulous volunteers and crew will be distributing these over the next couple of market days. This is a great opportunity to refamiliarise yourself with all of the market operational requirements that are part of your licence agreement and key to a safe and respectful market environment for everyone. Kind regards, Lisa Punshon, City Welcome Manager Winter Feast is coming Everyone is probably aware that Dark Mofo will be a scaled back affair this year, without the usual city takeover, but there are still plenty of things planned which you can read about on their website. The Winter Feast will be going ahead and will once again be a major drawcard for people to look forward to and enjoy. Dates will be 13-16 June and 20 - 23 June. Please send us some photos and information of any red products you will have that you would like us to share! We're also very keen to feature anything that would make winter in Tasmania that much more enjoyable! It could be heart-warming, indulgent or winter inspired. This can be woollens, liqueurs or even raincoats, mittens and scarves, a good book, a range
of skincare - anything to make you feel good on a cold, grey day! We'd love to hear from you! Dark Fringe Dark Fringe is a new arts, music and performance festival that is planning a range of cool events, light shows and performances at different locations around the city. It has the potential to be a very interesting addition to our winter calendar in Hobart and we are looking forward to finding out more about this one. A key location will be St David's Park and with the market right beside it, this is really going to be one big festival precinct. Dates will be 9 - 25 June. Keep an eye on their socials and website for more information. Get ready to move for winter! On 11 May, we will changeover to our winter market for 2024. Any stallholders that have different sites during summer and winter, please let us know if there is any maintenance required on the anchor points for your stall infrastructure, so we can organise for the crew to attend to this. It's getting DARK and we need to see your high VIS As the days shorten and it is now dark during the morning set up, it is a great time to remind stallholders about making sure you put your high vis vest on as soon as you arrive at the market. The vests have reflective strips that make the wearer easy to spot by drivers in low light conditions. We suggest that you make it part of your morning routine to put your vest on before getting out of your vehicle to set up. Stallholder handbook The 2024 Stallholder Operational Requirements Handbook has been printed and hard copies will be distributed at the market to stallholders over the coming two Saturdays. This is an important document that is referenced in your stallholder agreement. Please read the handbook and make sure you are familiar with the requirements. If there is anything that you are not sure of, or need more information on, please let us know. Don't pack up early! A reminder that it is important to continue trading at your stall until the market finshes at 3pm. Stallholders may begin to pack down their stall equipment after 2.30pm, but no earlier than 2.30pm. Stallholders must still be able to serve customers from their stall until 3pm as instructed in the Stallholder Operational Handbook. Casual stallholders Casual stallholder applications have now closed and a total of 180 applications were received. This is a very good result and shows that many smaller makers, designers and producers are very interested in trading at our market. All of the eligible applications will now be assessed by our panel and this process should be finalised over the next few weeks. As with other intakes, representatives from the SMSA will be Joining us on the panel and we would like to thank them for their commitment, expertise and time. Successful new casuals will be notified by the end of the month and can then start inductions and be ready to trade from the first Saturday in July. Support for Ev and her family Ev from 'Stitched with Love by Ev' makes beautiful children's clothes by hand and is a regular stallholder at site 173. She is currently going through a very difficult time as her husband is very unwell and has been diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer. A fundraiser has been set up by one of her friends with the goal of supporting them financially. We are sharing the word here as we know that many of our stallholders would like to know and provide support where they can. Further information is on the go fund me page. Website updates - check your listing There are quite a few stallholders who have not updated their website listing in several years.
