Florida Magazine Association Winter 2022 Member NewsletterA Note from the FMA PresidentDear Members, I cannot believe we are nearing the end of 2022! It has been a transformative and wonderful year! The magazine industry is still facing myriad challenges, yet Florida publishers are rising to and conquering each challenge that comes their way. One of my favorite things to do every morning is view the different FMA magazine covers posted on FMA’s social media accounts. If you are not yet following the FMA, we would love for you to join our social media community (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter). Also, please send us your magazine updates, covers and news to share with the community. Planning for the 2023 conference will begin in January and we would love to hear from our members. Let us know what session topics and any other ideas you would like to see and hear about during the 2023 Florida Media Conference. Our marketing and membership committee is creating an energized and renewed membership drive and as part of this initiative, we want to hear more from you in 2023. We will be sending a member survey in January and everyone who completes the survey will be entered in a drawing to win a free ticket to next year’s Charlie Award Gala. As this year ends, I would like to thank all of you and the FMA Board of Directors for the opportunity you have given me to serve as your president. I am a firm believer in associations and that members are the heart and soul of any association. Join a Florida Magazine Association committee! The Florida Magazine Association is always looking for interested professionals — and aspiring editorial executives — to join our board. And what better way to do so, than by volunteering in one of our many committees. Now through December 30, 2022, we are accepting applications for interested FMA members to join one of our committees — Nominating, Marketing & Membership, Contest, Newsletter, Scholarship, and Conference & Webinar. “Committee members are the heart of FMA,” says FMA President Karla Monterrosa-Yancey. “Our committee members assist us with many vital activities, including the Charlie Awards program, serving as judges for our Doug Damerst Scholarship, and promoting our social presence.” Founded in 1953, FMA’s mission is to create a community of publishing professionals that help to promote the excellence and standing of magazines in the state. “Our members represent the gamut of magazines in Florida and so do our committee and board members,” adds Karla. “We are always looking for interest editors, writers and publishers to join our committees and help us move our association forward.” If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please email Karen Tower at ktower@flpress.com by December 30, 2022, and indicate your top two committee choices.
