From mobile phone filmmaking workshops to creating your own grass head, from trail rides to intensive swimming programs, there’s plenty of activities in Mitchell Shire to keep children of all ages entertained these school holidays.

BUDDING FILMMAKERS
Create movies on your mobile
Learn the ins and outs of filmmaking using just your mobile phone at this two-day workshop.
Get great tips on storytelling, camera angles, lighting, sound and editing.
Participants will create their own social media video or short film during the workshop.
The workshop will from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday 6 July and Thursday 7 July at the Wallan Youth Room, 42 Bentinck St, Wallan.

DIVE RIGHT IN
Intensive swimming program
Fast track your child's water skills these school holidays with a week of intensive swimming lessons.
Lessons are being held at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre from 27 June to 1 July and Kilmore Leisure Centre from 4 to 8 July inclusive.
The cost is $80 for five, 30 minute classes.
Enrolled students can enjoy free access to the pool all day on the days of their lessons.

ARTS AND CRAFTS
Create your own grasshead
Let the kids get creative with arts and crafts at our libraries. They can also create their own grass head or challenge family and friends to a board game at our libraries.
The activities are free and will run from 11am to 3pm throughout the two weeks at our libraries.
Activities are on Monday to Friday in Kilmore, Seymour and Wallan and Mondays and Thursdays in Beveridge.
Please note, Broadford Customer and Library Service Centre will be closed until the end of June for refurbishment works.

Enjoy a winter's day outdoors
There are many great things to see and do in Mitchell Shire during winter, and we invite you to discover them all.
Whether it's a family day out at the Community Bank® Adventure Playground, a day of cycling along the Great Victorian Rail Trail from Tallarook, a glass of locally-made wine in Tooborac or taking some time to enjoy the serenity of the Goulburn River in Seymour, there's something for everyone.

LAST CHANCE TO SEE LOCAL ARTISTS
Don't miss the final weekend of the Hart of Mitchell exhibition.
It's open until Sunday 26 June at the Mitchell Shire Council Chambers Gallery, 113 High Street, Broadford.
It will be open Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
There are also some places available for the artist talk and demonstration with glass artist Marina Villani on Sunday 26 June. Bookings essential.

Get Started today by registering for the challenge. Participants receive weekly tips to help them to keep motivated, and enjoy stories from others around the world who are reducing plastic in their lives.

COUNCIL IN CANBERRA
Advocating for Mitchell
Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm and Director Advocacy and Communities Mary Agostino were flying the flag for Mitchell in Canberra earlier this week at the 2022 National General Assembly of Local Government.
In keeping with the theme of the Assembly ‘Partners in Progress’, councillors committed to partnering with the Australian Government to progress critical reforms.
They included national productivity, climate change transition, Closing the Gap, housing affordability including increased social housing, appropriate road safety reforms, restoring integrity of federal funding to local government, and improved local delivery of community services.
Today, Councillors and Council staff join other Victorian Council's for the Municipal Association of Victoria's State Council.

THE GREAT ARTDOORS
Artists chosen, locations decided
Eight artists have been appointed to create art installations at various locations along the Great Victorian Rail Trail and art location sites have been chosen.
The $1.2 million Project is a partnership between Murrindindi, Mansfield and Mitchell Shire Councils, funded through the Victorian Government Regional Tourism Investment Fund Stimulus Round, as part of the COVID-19 tourism stimulus package through Regional Development Victoria.
The works are expected to be installed before the end of April 2023.

PARTY IN SEYMOUR
Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre
It was party time at the Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre on Sunday 19 June.
An open day was held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the heated pool at the centre.
The day included free entry and a range of fun activities including fitness classes, a jumping castle, a DJ, a sausage sizzle, a visit from the police, army and fire brigade.

SYDNEY STREET REJUVENATION PROJECT UPDATE
There’s plenty of new footpath appearing in Kilmore as part of the Sydney Street Rejuvenation Project.
Your favourite local businesses are still open but check with them for access arrangements as works continue along the western side of the street.
Please take care if you’re travelling through Kilmore and follow all directional signage.

Link Avenue Playground: Tuesday 5 July at 9am. We're getting ready to replace the playground equipment at Link Avenue in Kilmore and we want to know what you think.
Amendment C157 — Planning Scheme review implementation: Monday 18 July at 9am. The amendment makes several changes to reflect State planning policy and some administrative adjustments.

KILMORE CREEK
Revegetation works starting soon
Weedy tree species will be removed along a section of the Kilmore Creek between Mill Street and Bourke Street as part of works identified in the Kilmore Creek Landscape Masterplan.
Local indigenous species will be replanted as part of a National Tree Day event in July.
Tree removal will begin Monday 27 June and be completed by Monday 4 July.

Mitchell Shire Council's Planning and Building Office in Wallan will be reopened for drop-in queries from Monday 27 June between 9am and 5pm.
