All of our news for the autumn of 2023 ![]() Welcome to cbec UK's autumn newsletter. ![]() Project work update Bronie Burn Weir Removal ![]() Great drone shots of the Bronie Burn, Aberdeenshire taken by Olly Smith from cbec a few weeks ago! The weir was removed last year and there has already been a positive impact on the surrounding area with a noted increase in fish numbers passing through. Thanks to all involved including SEPA and McGowan Environmental Engineering Ltd - for more information please go here: ![]() ![]() River Dibb, North Yorkshire Large wood was strategically placed along lengths of the River Dibb channel, a project being undertaken for Yorkshire Water. These are installed to improve the residence times of the finer gravel/cobble fraction being added to the reach, which is largely absent from the channel under current conditions. A greater heterogeneity in gravel size will improve the quality of habitat within the channel for fish species. ![]() Garrel Burn, North Lanarkshire ![]() Great shot of our North Team at Garrel Burn, North Lanarkshire after a North Team meet up! cbec supported WSP with the production of detailed designs, including realignment of a 450m section of the burn that was significantly straightened and canalised, advising on appropriate channel geometry and relevant features to be implemented within the new design channel. Work was completed in 2021 and the results speak for themselves! Garrell Burn options appraisal, design and build
![]() ![]() River Shin, Lairg ![]() A few weeks ago, we were out monitoring post-construction conditions on the River Shin, near Lairg, Sutherland. Our design involved gravel augmentation and associated large wood structures to mitigate habitat loss downstream of a hydropower scheme. And it has been a great success - 58 redds (salmon nests) counted from the 2022 season over four sites and lots of juvenile salmon about. Projects like this make a huge difference to wildlife and the general local environment. ![]() ![]() News ![]() New Website We are delighted to share with you our new website!
