Special Announcements

Google is proud to sponsor iGEM as they work to advance the field of synthetic biology and create more opportunities for advanced STEM education. Best of luck to this year's competitors!

Take advantage of IDT's free DNA offer. Want to know more about gBlocks®? Participate in their webinar on April 29. See below for details.

Take advantage of MathWorks' special offer and take part in their webinar, "SimBiology and MATLAB for Modeling Synthetic Biology Systems" on May 27.

iGEM Headquarters grows -- Welcome, Traci!
We are excited to announce that Traci Haddock has joined iGEM Headquarters as a Science & Technology Fellow. Traci was previously at Boston University and has led the BU iGEM team for the past 4 years. Traci has a Ph.D in Cell and Molecular Biology and as a Technology Fellow at HQ, she will focus on advancing synthetic biology technology in iGEM. Please join us in welcoming Traci to the iGEM HQ team!

Save the Date!
The Giant Jamboree will be on September 24 - 28, 2015 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. All teams are invited. See details as they become available at 2015.igem.org/Giant_Jamboree.
DNA Distribution: All you need to know
For detailed information about the DNA Distribution Kit, see the 2015 DNA Distribution Kit Handbook.
Distribution Kit Plates

The 2015 Distribution kit plates contain over 1000 sequence confirmed parts. The kit is a combination of popular parts included in previous distributions and selected part submissions from iGEM 2014 teams.

These parts all meet the RFC10 standard to ensure compatibility between parts, allowing them to be easily and reliably assembled together into novel devices and systems.

All parts included in your kit have been sequenced, so please be sure to review a part’s sequencing result before using it.

Remember, once the DNA in a well is resuspended with dH2O, we recommend storage of the full plate at -20°C.

Linearized Plasmid Backbones

A set of four linearized plasmid backbones have been included in your kit. These plasmid backbones can be used for 3A assembly and for part submission at the end of the season. Store at -20°C and learn how to make your own here.

Transformation Efficiency Kit

One of the biggest hurdles for teams is transformation, and more specifically competent cells used for transformation. This transformation efficiency kit contains several controls to help you determine the transformation efficiency of your competent cells. Be sure to test the efficiency of your competent cells before you perform any transformations, especially if you make your own competent cell stocks. Store at -20°C.
NEW for 2015 - Part Submission Kit

The part submission kit included in your distribution kit includes all the materials you will need to send back your part submissions at the end of the season: skirted PCR plates, plate lids, adhesive foils, packaging material, and a box you can use for shipping!

Remember, iGEMers should abide by the Get & Give philosophy. You are receiving the work of teams that came before you and teams that come after you will want to make use of your parts. When you make your parts you can use whichever assembly technique you wish (3A, type IIs, Gibson, synthesis — see the IDT free DNA offer) but in the end, all of your parts should be BioBrick compatible. This way, teams in the future can make use of the parts you contribute.
More details coming soon in the Part Submission Page.

Partner Sponsors and Special Offers

iGEM is proud to announce our Partner Sponsors and Special Offers for iGEM 2015. These offers are designed specifically for iGEM teams. Please see our Partner Special Offers page for details and check back often for updates and new offers.

IDT Details

Special offer: Registration for the free DNA from IDT is now open. Please register your team here. Once your team is registered you will receive instructions for ordering (one registration per team please).  You can also learn how gBlocks® Gene Fragments and CRISPR genome editing can be used to easily modify genomic sequences. Go to www.idtdna.com/crispr.

Webinar: iGEM Success Using High Quality Gene Fragments
Date: April 29th
Time: TBD

Dr. Adam Clore will present some examples of past iGEM projects to illustrate how gBlocks® Gene Fragments can make your project a success.  You will also learn how to order your gene fragments and take advantage of the special offer of 20kb of free DNA to 2015 iGEM teams. Register for the webinar on our partner page.

MathWorks Details

Webinar: SimBiology and MATLAB for Modeling Synthetic Biology Systems
Date: May 27, 2015
Time: 9:00 to 10:00 EDT

This webinar will provide iGEM teams with an introduction to modeling, simulation and analysis with MATLAB and SimBiology using an example from synthetic biology literature.  More details on how to register will be posted on the MathWorks partner offer page later this month. Questions can be directed to academicsupport @ mathworks.com.
