It was wonderful to welcome so many prospective pupils and their families and we are excited about the possibility of many of you joining us in September 2025. The evening was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what makes The High School community so special. From the engaging classroom displays to the interactive presentations we hope you were able to get a glimpse of the vibrant learning environment we pride ourselves on. Our goal was to offer you a real sense of what it is like to be a pupil here and your enthusiasm made the evening even more rewarding. We should also like to offer our thanks to the dedicated staff at The High School. Without your hard work and creativity, this event would not have been possible. Teachers, support staff, and volunteers spent countless hours preparing informative and visually stunning displays, organizing activities, and sharing insights into the wide range of subjects, clubs, and programmes we have to offer. Your commitment to ensuring that incoming pupils feel welcomed and inspired is truly appreciated. Thank you once again for joining us at Open Evening. We look forward to welcoming many of you into our school community in 2025! Form 1 Outdoor ActivitiesOn Tuesday 1 October Form 1 pupils enjoyed an excursion to Alive Outside in Killruddery, Co Wicklow. We were split into groups to do a set number of activities for team building. Some of these activities included bushcraft, where we collaborated to build a shelter; "Floor is Lava", where we worked together to reach the end of the course; and archery. I hope that everyone in Form 1 agrees with me when I say that this excursion was a great experience and provided a wonderful High School memory. SNA Appreciation DayOn Special Needs Assistants (SNA) Appreciation Day we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful SNA colleagues. Your dedication, compassion, and hard work has a positive impact on our pupils and the whole school community. By providing essential support and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment you ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. Your patience and care do not go unnoticed and we are grateful for everything you do. Thank you for making such a difference—you are truly appreciated! Student CouncilOn Wednesday 9 October, before school, we will be holding elections for some of the most important roles in the Student Council, including President, Vice-President, Equality Officer, Irish Language Officer, and members of our Public Relations Committee. The Student Council is vital for promoting the voice of pupils at The High School. At least 75% of the Council must be present to hold elections, so please ensure your class representatives attend the meeting to represent your form. If there are any elected members who have not been added to the teams, please message Ms. Hutchinson-Edgar. Don't hesitate to speak with your class or year representative about
any issues you would like raised at the council. We look forward to the elections and to seeing who will lead this council through what we hope will be a very productive school year! Form 1 Hockey BlitzOn Wednesday 2 October the sun shone as we competed against Saint Andrew's College. Out of the eight matches played we emerged victorious in five. I had a fantastic time during this match and appreciated the sportsmanship displayed by our opponents. Form 1 GeographyIn Form 2 Geography class, pupils engaged in creative activities as part of their learning. They imagined that they had gone on a journey to explore a volcano, expressing their experiences through imaginative writing and enjoyable projects. Pupils crafted inventive postcards addressed to their teacher detailing everything that they had seen and experienced: lava-covered terrains, ash-filled skies, and exciting eruptions! They also made 3D models and art pieces of volcanoes, such as erupting cakes and Minecraft volcanic landscapes. You can review images of the items exchanged during this activity below. Volunteering in Puerto RicoDuring the first two weeks of last June, my brother and I travelled to Puerto Rico, an island in the Caribbean near the Dominican Republic. We volunteered with a non-profit organization called CRES (The Coalition for the Restoration of Santurcean Ecosystems). Their mission is to preserve and restore biodiversity in San Juan, the ever-developing capital city of Puerto Rico. Read more... Form 4 GeographyForm 4 pupils recently explored the diverse cultures that make up our world as part of their Geography syllabus. During the culture module, pupils had the exciting opportunity to bring their studies to life by sharing something close to home—family recipes! This activity allowed pupils to connect their learning about world cultures with their own backgrounds, fostering a greater appreciation for the rich diversity within our school community. From traditional dishes passed down through generations to modern twists on family favourites, the range of recipes shared was both impressive and heartwarming.
