Uniting in Prayer - 30 Days, 30 Voices, One Church in PrayerFrom Pentecost Sunday on 24 May to the 49th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia on 22 June, the Uniting Church is embarking on a shared season of national prayer. Over these thirty days, thirty voices from across the Church will come together. Each day, a new voice will lead us in prayer, as one body around a single, unifying question: “What does it mean to be woven together in Christ's love across cultures and boundaries?” Congregations and individuals are invited to journey with the Uniting Church in this prayer series beginning on Pentecost Sunday. Listening for Peace at the Justice HiveOver the last few years, the Uniting Church WA Social Justice Commission have been exploring a new model of working, creating opportunities for engagement on matters of social justice for the wider church through the Justice Hive (the Hive). On Saturday 2 May, the Hive topic was a discussion focused on ‘Listening for Peace, Confronting Racism’, asking the question, “In the face of escalating war, racism and intolerance of the Other, how might our congregations and communities be built for Peace?” This was an open opportunity to hear from and engage with three guest speakers each invited to share from their perspective and experience. Congregation Covenanting ActionsIn 1994 the Uniting Church in Australia entered into a Covenant with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) to walk together as First and Second Peoples in order to create a more just church and nation. One of the key strategic priorities adopted by the Uniting Church WA is ‘Strengthening our Covenantal Relationship with Congress’. In working towards this priority, the WA Synod's Covenanting Commission recently contacted congregations, encouraging them to consider what actions they may take to promote closer relationships between First and Second Peoples. The Commission have been collating responses from congregations about their Covenanting actions - click on the article to read more. To help challenge age-based stereotypes and encourage meaningful conversations, Juniper is partnering with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) to host a series of interactive workshops next month titled What’s age got to do with it? Held across four Juniper locations on Thursday 4 June and Friday 5 June, the workshops are open to everyone interested in learning more about the impacts of age discrimination and how we can all help create a more inclusive society. These workshops are open to everyone – not just those working in aged care. Click below for more information.
