Click here New Town Retail Precinct Upgrade Community Information Evening Further to our July 2022 project update, the City of Hobart is pleased to advise that MSD Civil Services Pty Ltd has been appointed to undertake the civil construction works for Stage 2 of the New Town Retail Precinct Upgrade project. A Community Information Evening with the contractor and City of Hobart staff will be held at Sacred Heart College, details as follows: DATE: Tuesday, 18 October 2022 This session will be an opportunity for you to meet the MSD team, be informed about the proposed work schedule, and raise any questions or concerns that you may have directly with the people doing the work on the ground. Further details will be provided upon RSVP. Construction program To minimise impacts on the Christmas trading period, construction work for the precinct upgrade will commence in mid-January 2023 and will be completed by the end of June 2023, weather permitting. At this time it is anticipated that the works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm weekdays, with MSD working a nine day fortnight. The final construction program will be informed by the Information Evening with the community in October. Pirie Street works In addition to the precinct upgrade, there will be some separate renewal works in Pirie Street (between Bay Road and Roope Street) commencing on 1 November 2022 and finishing on 5 December 2022. These works will involve the renewal of asphalt footpath, kerb and gutter and will also be undertaken by MSD Civil Services. The City will also be contacting residents in this street individually. The New Town Retail Prescient project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and Tasmanian Government. Australian Government funding of $1.3 million was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
