47th Annual Meeting of the Synod of WA

WA Synod 2023 - Opening Worship and Installation of Moderator

All are welcome to attend the Opening Worship Service and Installation of Rev Dr Ian Tozer as Moderator on Friday 8 September, 7.00pm at All Saints Floreat Uniting Church.  The live-stream of the service will be available on the Floreat UC Youtube page here.

What's happening at Synod 2023?

WA Synod 2023 - Being with Jesus in Ministry

In this video Rev Dr Ian Tozer, Moderator Elect, introduces the theme for his upcoming term as Moderator.  Ian also gives an overview of what to expect at the 47th Annual Meeting of the Uniting Church Synod of WA, and invites people to join the Saturday evening 'Church Futures' session at 7.00pm discussing Act2 and the 25 Year Presbytery Plan.

Planning is underway for the next Revive magazine which is due for release in December 2023.  If you have a story from your congregation or article for consideration of the editor please get in touch with Wendy Hendry by email - revive@wa.uca.org.au or phone 9260 9800 to discuss.

The submission deadline is Monday 16 October 2023.

  • Referendum Date Announced - The Uniting Church in Australia welcomes the announcement of 14 October as the date for the referendum on an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress National Interim Chair Rev Mark Kickett said, “This is an exciting opportunity for the nation to come together as one and for First Nations people to finally be heard.”

  • Let Justice and Peace Flow - The Assembly's Season of Creation resource is now available to download. This year the Assembly is sharing a worship resource which encourages Uniting Church congregations and communities to hold worship outside during the Season of Creation, gathering around the rivers or waterways in our cities, towns and communities. It also offers alternatives for those places across the country where water is scarce, or where outdoor worship may not be possible. 

  • National Weekend of Prayer, Reflection & Meditation - Communities of faith across Australia are invited to participate in a National Weekend of Prayer, Reflection and Meditation from 8 to 10 September, to reflect on and pray for unity and hope in the lead-up to the Voice referendum.   

  • Good Sammy CEO Kane Blackman has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Westfield Local Heroes award for Westfield Carousel!  Kane is 1 of 3 finalists, and if Kane gets the most votes, Good Sammy will win $20,000 to go towards employment opportunities for people with disability. Voting is online and closes Monday 11 September. 

  • The Social Justice Commission are calling for new members. Are you a person whose faith inspires you to greater justice for society and the environment? Are you passionate about issues such as climate change, homelessness and the human rights of asylum seekers? If so, you can find ways to exercise your faith through the Social Justice Commission of the Uniting Church WA. The Commission meet around 10 times a year (mainly by Zoom).  If this is an area of interest for you please contact Gordon Scantlebury, Chair of the Commission, at gordonscant@gmail.com

Facilities Supervisor
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Facilities professional to join the Property Services team at the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of WA.
Reporting to the Executive Officer: Property, the Facilities Supervisor will support the Property Services team with managing a diverse property portfolio across Perth and regional Western Australia. You will be a highly organised individual with keen attention to detail and an ability to work within a fluid work environment.

Education and Resources Co-Ordinator
The Education and Resources Co-ordinator will develop and provide quality resources and opportunities to meet learning needs for the ministry and mission of the Uniting Church in Western Australia. Expressions of interest are invited from Ministers of the Word or Deacons, Pastors or a lay person who is a member of the UCA, or applicants who hold comparable educational and theological training.

Formation and Learning Culture Co-Ordinator
The Formation and Learning Culture Co-ordinator will co-ordinate the formation programs and foster a learning culture within the Uniting Church in Western Australia.
