Take a look at Committee for Wyndham's November

 November 2024

November Reflections & Looking Ahead to December

As we wrap up November, it’s a great time to reflect on all we've accomplished this month. We've had a truly eventful month, from our successful Wyndham Connect event to hosting an informative session on AI in business—we’ve seen great engagement and meaningful conversations that are helping shape the future of our community. Additionally, our participation in the Wyndham Business Expo was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local businesses and showcase the innovation happening here in Wyndham.

Looking ahead to December, we’re excited to close out the year with our much-anticipated End of Year Celebration. This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our collective achievements and look forward to the opportunities 2025 will bring (RSVP CLOSES 4TH DECEMBER).

As always, I’m deeply grateful for the ongoing support and collaboration across our community. Together, we continue to grow and make Wyndham an even stronger place to live, work, and do business.

Warm regards,
Leanne Down

Wyndham Connect: A Valuable Conversation with Our Four Local MPs

During November, we were proud to host our members at a special lunch event featuring key updates from the four local Members of Parliament representing Wyndham. Graciously sponsored by Western United Football Club, the event offered a unique opportunity for members to hear directly from our MPs about their current initiatives, future plans, and priorities for the growth and development of Wyndham.

A sincere thank you to our MPs for their valuable contributions:

Tim Pallas - State Member for Werribee, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Economic Growth, and Treasurer of Victoria
Sarah Connolly - State Member for Laverton
Matthew Hilakari - State Member for Point Cook
Dylan Wight - State Member for Tarneit

Their presentations provided invaluable insights into key local initiatives, including infrastructure improvements, enhanced public services, and support for local businesses— efforts that are sure to strengthen the community of Wyndham.

The event kicked off with canapés on the terrace, providing a relaxed atmosphere for attendees to network and engage in meaningful discussions. As a bonus, guests were able to watch the Western United players in action during their training session, adding an exciting touch to an already dynamic event.

It was inspiring to see so many engaged members in attendance, contributing to a lively and productive conversation. We’re excited to continue these important discussions and work together to unlock the many opportunities that lie ahead for Wyndham’s future.

Forward-thinking: Harnessing AI with Microsoft Co-Pilot within Business Structures

A big thank you to all those who joined us for our recent session on harnessing AI with Microsoft Co-Pilot within business structures. We were pleased to welcome both members and non-members to this insightful event, where we explored forward-thinking strategies and best practices for staying ahead in today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape.

The session provided practical advice on integrating Microsoft Co-Pilot AI into everyday business operations, offering actionable insights into how AI can drive efficiencies and enhance productivity across various business functions.

A special thank you to Kenstra for delivering an engaging and highly practical live AI demonstration, showcasing how businesses can successfully implement and benefit from this powerful tool. We also want to extend our gratitude to our generous sponsors, Microsoft and Telstra, whose support made this event possible.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and helping our business community navigate the exciting possibilities AI has to offer.

Wyndham Business Expo: A fantastic opportunity to connect with local businesses and showcase the innovation happening here in Wyndham

The committee was proud to be a major partner for the Wyndham Business Expo, a premier event that highlighted the importance of networking, innovation, and collaboration.

Our involvement provided valuable opportunities to strengthen connections with industry leaders and fellow professionals, fostering meaningful partnerships that will benefit our members. The Expo also served as a platform to explore emerging business trends, allowing us to stay at the forefront of innovation.

Through engaging discussions and shared insights, the committee gained insights that address both current challenges and future opportunities, reinforcing our commitment to driving business growth and community success.

Expression of Interest for Upcoming Leadership Program 2025

Committee for Wyndham is delighted to launch its Emerging Leaders’ Program for 2025 in partnership with Committee for Wyndham member Matt Gaffney of strategic planning and people development practice Enindico.

Enindico has been helping leaders and emerging leaders plan, develop, engage and deliver since 2010 – and tailored programs for groups of emerging leaders have been a major feature of the practice’s work. This includes designing, planning and leading 8 cohorts of the Future Focus Group Program of Committee for Melbourne between 2015 and 2024, with around 150 graduates of the Program. Enindico will be a Business Member of Committee for Wyndham in 2025, a strategic decision Matt has made to implement elements of the Enindico Strategic Plan 2025-2027.

The typical Program participant will have 5 to 10 years of professional working experience and some formal management responsibilities, along with a strong and sustained interest in:

  • Understanding Wyndham better
  • Building broader relationships with others in Wyndham
  • Contributing to the enhancement of Wyndham.

A minimum of 10 participants are required for the Program to proceed and participant numbers will be capped at 20 if there is strong interest.

The Program is based on experiential learning over six months from March to September 2025, with:

  • A session on the first Tuesday of each month between 2pm and 7pm
  • Major opportunities and challenges facing Wyndham at the heart of the Program.

There will be in an Induction event on Tuesday 4 March at a member organisation of the Committee. Among other things, participants will be put into Project Teams of 5 to 7, with each Project Team given a project based on a major opportunity or a major challenge facing Wyndham. Each Project Team will then have six months to work on the project as a group and present findings and recommended next steps.

Five workshops will then follow on the first Tuesday of each month from April to August. These workshops will be hosted by a mix of member organisations of the Committee and, in keeping with the focus on major opportunities and challenges facing Wyndham and understanding Wyndham better, will have the following themes:

  • Education in Wyndham
  • Health in Wyndham
  • Transport in Wyndham
  • Development in Wyndham
  • Local business in Wyndham.

Each Workshop will feature a special guest who is a leader of an organisation aligned to the theme of the Workshop. The special guest will showcase the organisation and be interviewed by Matt before taking questions from Program participants. Project Teams will also have a decent allocation of time for Project Team work at each Workshop and there will be relationship building time for participants over finger food and refreshments for the last hour.

The Program will culminate in Project Presentations and a Celebration event on Tuesday 2 September at a Werribee venue to be confirmed. This is where the Project Teams will present their findings and recommendations to a Panel that the Committee will arrange before a celebratory meal to recognise the efforts and the relationships formed over the six months of the Program.

For a paid-up Corporate Plus, Corporate or Business member of the Committee, the investment in a participant in the Program is just $2,500 plus GST. For another organisation based in Wyndham, the investment in a participant in the Program is $3,500 plus GST.

For planning purposes, completed Nomination Forms for the Program are sought by Wednesday 22nd January.

Nominees will be advised by the Committee of the outcome of reviews of the Nomination Forms by Wednesday 14th February, and for each confirmation of participation, the Committee will also issue the nominating organisation an invoice for the full Program fee. Those invoices are due for payment by Friday 21st February.

From exclusive fan activations to branded signage at key locations, this partnership is set to deliver an exciting, fresh energy to race days. “Racing is at the heart of Australian communities, and Werribee Racing Club’s proud history makes it the perfect partner for our first venture into racecourse sponsorship” said Nick Heaney, CEO of Picklebet.

CB Motor Group's Legacy with Werribee Football Club returning as Major Sponsor

We are proud to highlight the long-standing partnership between two valued members of our Committee: CB Motor Group and the Werribee Football Club. This family-owned business, originally Ballan Holden since 1978, has been an integral part of the Werribee community, especially through its major sponsorship of the Werribee Football Club since 2000.

Tino Ballan, the founder of CB Motor Group, has always had a strong connection to the club, a bond that runs deep within his family. Tino’s sons, Paul (Werribee Football Club Player #450) and Mark (Player #452), both played for the club for several seasons, starting in 1994.

Reflecting on their journey, Tino shared, "When the opportunity came for us, formerly Ballan Holden, now CB Motor Group, to become the major sponsor, I took it." His dedication to the club has been unwavering, and as the 2025 season approaches, Tino expressed his pride in the partnership: “This sense of community is a very big part of my sponsorship, and I am so proud to continue supporting the club.”

This sentiment was echoed by Werribee Football Club’s star player, Dom Brew, during his acceptance speech for his second consecutive best-and-fairest award at the club’s Bruce Montgomery Night. Brew took a moment to acknowledge the Ballan family’s incredible contribution, saying, “Tino, your support for the club, you and your family, that’s just phenomenal. Thank you to you and your family for your constant support, it’s absolutely huge.”

As we look ahead to the 2025 season, the Committee for Wyndham is excited to celebrate this ongoing legacy of support, community, and local business leadership.

All Green Nursery and Garden Spread Holiday Cheer with Charity Partnership

The Committee for Wyndham is excited to share a heartwarming initiative from our valued member, All Green Nursery and Garden, this holiday season. In partnership with WynActive, All Green Nursery and Garden is hosting a fundraising event at Eagle Stadium, where $10 from every tree sold will be donated to the Big Group Hug Charity Christmas Initiative.

Big Group Hug is a grassroots, not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families facing hardship. The charity provides essential items such as clothing, toiletries, nappies, prams, cots, and car seats for children ranging from newborns to 16-year-olds. By redistributing new and pre-loved goods, Big Group Hug helps alleviate financial stress for families, ensuring children have access to the resources they need for their well-being. Their work is community-driven, relying on donations and volunteers to serve those in need.

We applaud All Green Nursery and Garden for their generosity and commitment to giving back to the community this holiday season. This initiative is a wonderful example of local businesses coming together to make a meaningful impact.

Marlborough Residents at Port Philip Prison Give Back with Thriving Vegetable Garden

The Committee for Wyndham is proud to highlight an inspiring project that demonstrates the power of community, teamwork, and personal growth. A group of Marlborough residents at Port Phillip Prison, under the expert guidance of a Kangan Horticulture teacher, has transformed a small patch of land into a thriving vegetable garden. This initiative not only provides fresh produce for the local Food Bank but also empowers participants with valuable life skills and job-ready experience.

The project was inspired by a radio broadcast discussing the challenges faced by local Food Banks, prompting the group to begin growing a range of vegetables such as zucchini, spring onions, and kale. Since then, their efforts have expanded to include tomatoes, pumpkins, and soon, watermelons. With the support of Marlborough mentors, the garden has spread into an adjacent compound, increasing its potential to give back even more.

Over 14 participants have joined the initiative, dedicating their time and energy to clear land, create furrows, and improve soil quality. The first harvest yielded an impressive 50 kilograms of fresh produce, followed by a second harvest of 200 kilograms. Both harvests were generously donated to the Wyndham Food Bank, which supports over 350 registered families and serves approximately 150 families weekly.

Janine, the Food Relief Coordinator at Wyndham Food Bank, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the contribution: "I want to say a huge thank you for the amazing donation to our Community Food Store. This will go a very long way in helping the community that is struggling to put food on the table! Please pass on my sincere thanks, on behalf of the community, to all the wonderful gardeners, for the amazing donations that we are receiving. They are sincerely appreciated."

This project is a powerful reminder of how individuals can find purpose and make a positive impact on the community while gaining valuable skills for life beyond prison. It’s an inspiring example of giving back and building a stronger, more connected community.
