New season kicks off with 1-5 Triples this weekend Blackjacks' women worlds best!The New Zealand women’s bowls team capped an excellent campaign at the 2023 World Bowls Championships, awarded the prestigious Taylor Trophy at the conclusion of the event. New Zealand has only previously won the Taylor Trophy, awarded to the best overall women’s team, on one occasion, at the 1973 world championships 50 years ago. Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori togetherLast week saw the introduction of a new precedent ruling creating restrictions around players holding multiple memberships playing in simultaneous events. So, what does it mean for you? This ruling will only impact those who hold full playing rights at more than one club. There are two parts to the ruling. Ian Birch MemorialIan Birch Memorial Tournament was held last weekend, 9 & 10 September, at Epsom Bowls. Ian was our Patron and a member for over 50 years, so this Memorial Tournament was to celebrate his lifelong commitment and contribution to the club and the sport of bowls. It was a fantastic event, enjoyed by all attending - the club is looking forward to hosting it again next year. Ian's family were on hand for the trophy presentation and sincerely appreciated the club holding an event in Ian's honour. Congratulations to the trophy winners: John Boy, Adam and Brendon. General conditions of playThese have been updated for the 2023-2024 playing season Sapphire Jubilee Opening at KohiThe 2023/24 Opening Day was a special one for Kohi Bowing Club - the Club's Sapphire Jubilee Year - 65 years! Although 65 is generally noted as a time to begin to slow down, Kohi is revving up! The occasion was attended by community and regional politicians; Angus McPhee, Ōrākei Local Board member, Sarah Powrie, Ōrākei Local Board Deputy Chair, Club Patron Julie Kennedy, Barfoot & Thompson St. Heliers/Kohimarama and Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson (pictured with Kohi President Margie Sorensen). We are hoping to see all of you during this 'quinsexagennial' season! -- Cynthia Morris PBA Finals Weekend returns to InvercargillInvercargill’s Waverley Bowling Club will host the New Zealand Professional Bowls Association Finals Weekend this weekend for the first time since 2013. Play begins on Friday night at 5pm with a ‘Shanghai’ singles qualifier for players to get used to the rink with the playoffs in earnest underway from 8.30am on Saturday.
