Negotiating for Positive Outcomes When: 5 September 2024, 10:30am - 12:30pm The ability to negotiate is consistently rated as one of the most critical skills for being successful – but not many people ever learn how to do it well. In reality, negotiation is a process that incorporates a number of specific skills which can be improved with practice. In this workshop we will look at a flexible model of negotiation that can be applied to a range of different situations, from the short and quick “corridor” negotiation to more formal business negotiations. Other Training & EventsR203: Data Manipulation and Visualisation in R R is quickly gaining popularity and has an excellent ecosystem including the powerful RStudio and the Shiny web application framework. In this workshop, you will learn how to manipulate, explore and get insights from your data (Data Manipulation using dplyr), as well as how to convert your data from one format to another (Data Transformation using tidyr). Register here. EXCEL201: Beyond Basics: Conditionals and Visualisation in Excel After cleaning your database, you may need to apply some conditional analysis to glean greater insights from your data. You may also want to enhance your charts for inclusion into a manuscript, thesis or report by adding some statistical elements. This course will cover conditional syntax, nested functions, statistical charting and outlier identification. Armed with the tips and tricks from our introductory Excel for Researchers course, you will be able to tap into even more of Excel’s diverse functionality and apply it to your research project. SQL101: Databases and SQL A relational database is an extremely efficient, fast and widespread means of storing structured data, and Structured Query Language (SQL) is the standard means for reading from and writing to databases. Databases use multiple tables, linked by well-defined relationships, to store large amounts of data without needless repetition while maintaining the integrity of your data. Moving from spreadsheets and text documents to a structured relational database can be a steep learning curve, but one that will reward you many times over in speed, efficiency and power. QLTRICS101: Surveying with Qualtrics Needing to collect data from people in a structured and intuitive way? Have you thought about using Qualtrics? Qualtrics in a powerful cloud-based survey tool, ideal for social scientists from all disciplines. This course will introduce the technical components of the whole research workflow from building a survey to analysing the results using Qualtrics. We will discover the numerous design elements available in order to get the most useful results and make life as easy as can be for your respondents. REDCAP201: Longitudinal Trials with REDCap REDCap is a powerful and extensible application for managing and running longitudinal data collection activities. With powerful features such as organising data collections instruments into predefined events, you can shepherd your participants through a complex survey at various time points with very little configuration. This course will introduce some of REDCap’s more advanced features for running longitudinal studies, and builds on the foundational material taught in REDCAP101 – Managing Data Capture and Surveys with REDCap. Neurodiversity Study Skills Workshop Semester 2 2024 The Disability Support Unit and the Writing Centre will be hosting a series of workshops for neurodivergent students. These workshops are part of a collaborative effort to support neurodivergent learners at all levels of study. These workshops will focus on academic study skills, executive function, and neurodiversity awareness. All students, no matter their diagnosis status, are welcome to attend. Students must register their interest to secure their place as room capacity is limited. You can claim 1.5 credits in CaRST for each workshop you complete. Neurodiversity Mentoring 2025 The Disability Support Unit will be launching a Neurodiversity Mentoring Program in 2025 to support neurodivergent students. Mentors will assist their neurodiverse mentees and provide advice around study habits, executive functioning, academic skills, and managing studying whilst neurodivergent. Please visit the Neurodiversity Project webpage to learn more about this pilot program and how to become a mentor. We are also asking students to kindly fill out this survey on future neurodiversity support. You can claim up to 7 credits in CaRST for completion of the program and training CaRST Tips Do you have trouble remembering when you have a CaRST workshop? Did you know that CaRST online has a calendar feature? Your calendar of CaRST event bookings can be integrated with your preferred calendar tool, including Outlook and Google Calendar. This requires a one-time set up, after which, all CaRST events you book into will be automatically added to your personal calendar.
