Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! Principal updateHello all, I hope that you are all keeping well and looking forward to a break over the Easter holidays. As well as lots of awareness and fundraising efforts, March has been filled with lots of 'green-fingered activities' thanks to Kate, who has really made a big impact with the children since she started with us, and is definitely inspiring some future gardeners! We are holding a Coffee Afternoon on Friday 28th April from 1.30pm which you should have received an invite for. I hope to see some of you at the event - it's a great opportunity to meet up and chat with fellow Highgate parents and carers. Please give the School Office a call to confirm your attendance. Please don't forget that there are now three bank holidays in May in addition to half term (more details further down in this newsletter) so May will feel like a very short month! As always, if you have any questions, or anything you would like to discuss with me, please don't hesitate to get in touch in the usual way: kerry.taylor@hhhschool.co.uk, 01288 341998 or 07534 659306. We look forward to welcoming children back to school after the Easter break on Monday 17th April. Warm wishes, Kerry Taylor Principal Orchards for Schools projectWe are taking part in the Orchards for Schools Campaign #Forcefornature, planting the fruit trees that were so kindly donated to us by The Tree Council. The children have worked together as a team to collect stones, dig up soil, mix in some compost and carefully plant the trees. Each class has planted and adopted a tree to take care of and they look forward to eating the fruit. You can find out more about the Orchards for Schools project by clicking the button below. Easter Holiday activitiesThere are a number of organisations that run a range of activities through the school holidays, many of which are fully funded for children that receive free school meals. Take a look at: Time2Move Holiday Programme (Cornwall) 'Thing'...One of our learners has worked INCREDIBLY hard to complete this project. The attention to detail is just astonishing. Sculpture paints, various texturing techniques and even car lacquer went towards getting the finish just right. Thank you once again to Angelique at the Pottery Box for helping our learners to hone these amazing skills. RHS Campaign for School GardeningWe've recently completed our Level 1, 2 and 3 RHS School Gardening Awards, with just levels 4 and 5 to go! As well as nurturing a passion for plants and the natural world around us, the campaign helps our learners to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, their understanding of the environment and sustainability, confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills. Extra May bank holidayAs the King's Coronation is taking place on Saturday 6th May 2023, the following Monday (8th May) has been announced as an additional bank holiday. This will mean that there are now a total of 3 bank holidays in May (1st, 8th & 29th). We will send out reminders in due course, but just wanted to make sure it was in everyone's diaries in plenty of time. New logoYou will no doubt have seen our new logo cropping up across the website and social media channels. We hope you like it as much as we do! A big thank you to Beth, one of our members of staff, who came up with the design. It is now much more in keeping with the other schools that make up the Melrose Education group.
