SFO News Update - Spring 2019

Welcome Air Italy!

SFO welcomes Air Italy—and its first nonstop service to Milan, Italy.

On April 10, 2019, Air Italy (IG) launched non-stop service from SFO to Milan, Malpensa (MXP). The flight operates four times per week on an A330-200 aircraft and departs SFO at 7:10 p.m. and arrives MXP at 4:05 p.m. the following day. The return flight departs MXP at 1:35 p.m. and arrives SFO at 5:10 p.m. Arrivals into MXP are timed to provide connections to multiple cities in Italy, including Rome, Naples, Palermo, Catania, Lamezia Terme, Olbia and Cagliari.

SFO Welcomes Norwegian Air Shuttle

On March 31, 2019, Norwegian Air Shuttle (DI) commenced non-stop service to London Gatwick (LGW) onboard its 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Flights operate five times a week and depart SFO at 6:30 p.m. and arrive LGW at 12:40 p.m. the following day. The return flight departs LGW at 1:30 p.m. and arrives SFO at 4:30 p.m.

Norwegian has been voted the “World’s Best Low-Cost, Long Haul Airline” for three years in a row by passengers in the Skytrax Awards (2016-18).

SFO Opens New Outdoor Terrace Observation Deck

New passenger space is part of an improvement project for International Terminal

SFO opened a unique new amenity to travelers: an outdoor terrace and observation deck, located post-security at the end of the International Terminal, Boarding Area G. The open-air space affords 180-degree views of the airfield, including some of the largest aircraft serving SFO, such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 aircraft.

SFO Opens New Long-Term Parking Garage with $18 Daily Rate Effective May 1st

New parking complex doubles Airport’s available long-term parking space capacity for customers

SFO celebrated the opening of the new SFO Long-Term Parking at 794 South Airport Boulevard with a new $18 per day parking rate, effective May 1, 2019. The new six-story garage facility provides 3,600 additional parking stalls adjacent to the existing long-term parking garage with 3,109 spaces.

SFO Earns Environmental Award for the World’s First Zero Net Energy Airport Facility

Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA) honors SFO with Environmental Achievement Award for Airfield Operations Facility

SFO was honored for the world’s first Zero Net Energy (ZNE) facility at an airport. ACI-NA, which represents governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports across the United States and Canada, recognized SFO with its Environmental Achievement Award in the Environmental Management Category for its Airfield Operations Facility, which was recently certified as a Zero Net Energy facility by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI).

Real ID

Streamliners and Aluminum

Two new exhibitions are on view in the Aviation Museum & Library: Streamlines: Air Age Aesthetics for Industrial Design and Aluminum: The Miracle Metal of Aviation. The Aviation Museum & Library is located pre-security in the International Terminal. It is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is free of charge.
