Happy Chinese New Year, the Year of the Tiger!
2021 was a stellar year for WiAS and the network went from strength to strength. We held three well attended events and received award winning recognition for our work. In 2022, we now call on you to find your inner tiger and be part of our campaign – Bravery; one fear at a time. Every one of us is different, all having our own fears and challenges. It might be presenting to a large audience, speaking up for what we want from our own careers and being able to say yes or sometimes no! Or it might be
pushing right into your discomfort zone and doing that parachute jump.
We hope that by asking everyone to face up to their fear in 2022, however large or small it will bring out your inner tiger strength. This will allow you to take the brave steps needed to develop your successful career, wherever that career path may take you. As part of our campaign, we are asking you to share photos or quotes of your brave pledges on our LinkedIn page and on your own social media using the campaign hashtag #FindingMyBrave. Find out more here. 2022 is the year that we will all re-emerge from our homes and start to reacquaint ourselves with our colleagues, our organisation and our networks. There has never been a better time to invest in what you want from your own future and to do it bravely. Bring out your inner tiger in 2022!
MARCH EVENT:
Finding your next role16 March 12.30 GMT (online)Whether you are comfortable in your current job, thinking about your next move or actively engaged in a job search, it's good to consider potential new opportunities to pursue. Women often underestimate their own skills, particularly their “soft” skills and, as a result, do not
always apply for roles that stretch them as often as they ought.
Our next event aims to put you in the driving seat of your own career: - Understand the job market and what employers are looking for;
- Identify the role that is perfect for you;
- How to figure out your own brand to make you stand out from the crowd, and
- Finishing with a Q&A session
Led by Paul Chapman of HornbyChapman with Terri Van Praagh, COO, Global Fund Services, UK at Northern Trust and Giulia Iannucci, founder and driving force behind KnowThyBrand. To find out more about our event and to register, visit our events page.
From strength to strength: 2021 in reviewWe underwent a transformation last year but unlike most of us, it didn’t involve leisure wear and baking! Our partnership with Embark was announced, which has been a huge
success and seen the launch of our website along with a refresh of all branding. - We've gone global! The diversity of WiAS has grown too, we now have members from UK, Ireland, USA, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, France, Finland, Spain, Austria and Germany.
- Our Linkedin group has grown to 520 members – our target is to grow to 1000 by the end of the year, so please spread the word and invite your friends and colleagues.
- And new members are finding us from organic searching, overtaking links from social media!
Awards - We were delighted to win the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Initiative Award 2021 from Asset Servicing Times in November.
- We celebrated our founder, Kate Webber who was named Mentor of the Year at the Investment Week’s Women in Investment Awards 2021.
- And Gillian Hepburn, a key member of the WiAS advisory board won Woman of the Year – Investment, from Professional Adviser's Women in Financial Advice Awards.
- Kate was also interviewed by Global Custodian as part of their stories podcast, talking about WiAS and its aim and the many incredible women who have shaped her career. If you haven’t already heard it, listen here.
