What is your professional background?
I am a PhD student from Health Science Center of Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. My previous research project is the protective effect of renalase on salt-induced renal inflammatory injury. Renalase is a flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)-dependent amine oxidase that is secreted into the blood from the kidney in humans. It has been reported that renalase has potential renoprotective

In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work in the Division of Cardiology, and my mentor is Dr. Kathy Griendling.
Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
I am working on the specific research project "Role of Poldip2 in endothelial barrier function.” Polymerase delta interacting protein-2 (Poldip2), a protein with multiple binding partners, is an important modulator of the brain and lung endothelial barrier function. We will examine the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which endothelial Poldip2 mediates transcellular and paracellular permeability pathways both in vivo and vitro. These will allow us to gain new insight into a novel therapeutic target for prevention of protein-rich edema and leukocyte extravasation following stroke and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and will help us to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms. What do you like most about Emory?
I like the beautiful scenery as well as the open, happy, and friendly academic atmosphere of our lab. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like watching movies, listening to music, and traveling with friends.
