Brad Harrison New Conservancy Protects Rare Ecosystems in Incomappleux ValleyThe Incomappleux valley is well known for its rich wildlife habitat and old-growth forests. It is a biologically unique place in B.C. that will now be preserved in agreement with Indigenous groups, Interfor, the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the BC Government. Interfor Corp. is giving up timber rights to 75,000 hectares. The valley is a rare inland temperate forest with a significant number of mature trees, some up to 1500 years old. Environment Minister George Heyman noted that the area is one of the few temperate rainforests in the world. The new conservancy is over 58,000 hectares and supports a significant number of wildlife and plant species, such as 250 lichen species. This is big step in helping to preserve BC's unique biodiversity. For more information visit BC Gov't - Incomappleux Valley.
