A Message from our Head of School - Jerry Salvador

A Message from our Head of Academics - Linda Bayes

Dear Parents and Students,

We have now completed our first week of online learning and we couldn’t be more pleased with the engagement of students, parents and teachers.  Everyone was very anxious at the beginning of the week but I believe we have all settled into a good routine and this will continue to improve over the next couple of weeks. I especially want to thank all the parents for their support and encouragement because this just won’t work without you standing behind us and we appreciate your efforts very much.

The lower grades engage in the normal schedule each day, although at a reduced time allotment for each class. I have been monitoring their classes and they are adjusting to this new method of learning and putting in their very best effort. I congratulate them all for demonstrating IB Learner Profile attributes of “open-minded” and “risk-taker”. We are all having to explore new ways of doing things and I believe we can gain new skills from this challenge.

This is a difficult time for our Grade 12 students and we are all thinking of them and trying to make this experience as positive as possible. The final term of grade 12 is a time for celebration of the completion of their studies and not being able to be together is hard for everyone. I will be working with teachers to develop some strategies to ensure our Grade 12 students are able to celebrate their learning in some way.

Students are missing their after-school activities and we are working towards providing a virtual after school activity program which will start in the next week or two. We will have more information about how this might run next week, we are still in the planning phases.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an email lbayes@westshore.brookes.org
