Semaglutide reduces risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with overweight or obesity

People living with overweight or obesity are 20 per cent less likely to develop heart problems if they are treated with once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg, latest research suggests.

Novo Nordisk has announced the headline results from the SELECT cardiovascular outcomes study – a randomised, placebo-controlled trial designed to evaluate the efficacy of semaglutide 2.4 mg versus placebo as a prevention option for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).

Prescribed diabetes drugs increased by 16 million since 2015/16, report shows

In 2022/23, there were 66 million drug items used in treating diabetes prescribed in England at a cost of £1.53billion, 15 per cent of the total spend on all prescription items prescribed in England.

A new NHS report shows an increase of 16 million items and £570million from 2015/16, when 50 million diabetes items were prescribed in England at a cost of £960million, representing 10 per cent of the total spend on all prescription items.

Menarini entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceutica NV (“Janssen”) effective from January 2, 2023. Menarini has taken up the physical distribution as of July 1, 2023.

Professor Alan Sinclair is still leading the way in diabetes research for older people, despite being in his early 70s. The global researcher is a WHO recognised expert in diabetes, older people and frailty, as well as the chair of the Foundation for Diabetes Research in Older People (fDROP).

The first hybrid closed loop system that uses a FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor is available in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
