Carols by CandlelightThe Cairns Carols by Candlelight will be held at Fogarty Park on Sunday 11 December. Featuring a host of local talent on stage and plenty of opportunities to sing along to your favourite carols and Christmas songs. The event is also the major fundraiser for the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Appeal, so please remember to bring some spare change or purchase candles and other fun items from the official stalls. Council appoints Chief Executive OfficerCouncil’s Chief Financial Officer, John Andrejic, has been appointed as the organisation’s CEO. Mr Andrejic joined Council in August 2013 to lead the finance team and has been instrumental in turning around Council’s financial position. A proud "born-and-bred" Cairns local, Mr Andrejic's appointment was unanimously endorsed at this week's Ordinary Meeting. read more

The event will coincide with the first night of Carols in the City, when carollers, roving entertainment and Santa Claus will bring some festive cheer into the city heart. Keep an eye on our Facebook page on Monday when all the details will be revealed. Art at every turn in Shields StHave you been down to Shields Street recently? As work continues on Stage 2 of the Shields Street Heart project, the recently completed Stage 1 section has come alive with Indigenous artworks and after-dark projections. Yarrabah family trio Valmai Pollard, Edna Ambrym and Philomena Yeatman (pictured above) who drew inspiration from their cultural ties to the region. Other artworks include stone etchings, sculptures and even steel-crafted bicycle racks. As darkness falls, moving projections with sound effects take over the space (pictured below). This free 45-minute workshop will cover reasons dogs bark and what you can do to prevent excessive barking. If you can't make it in person, we will be live streaming the workshop on Facebook.
