UPMC-PittOrtho Hosts Two Great Leaders in Orthopaedics

This month, our department had the privilege of welcoming two renowned orthopaedic leaders to Grand Rounds - Dr. Robert B. Anderson and Dr. Matthew Abdel. Each brought unique expertise and perspective to our faculty, trainees, and staff.

Dr. Robert B. Anderson
OrthoCarolina Foot & Ankle
Consultant, Green Bay Packers
Executive Editor, Foot & Ankle International

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Robert B. Anderson for joining us and delivering an outstanding Grand Rounds presentation. A nationally recognized leader in foot and ankle surgery, Dr. Anderson shared insights drawn from his extensive clinical experience and his work as a consultant for the Green Bay Packers and previously the Carolina Panthers.

His perspective on managing elite athletes at the highest level of professional sports made for an engaging and dynamic discussion. From complex injury management to return-to-play considerations, Dr. Anderson’s expertise sparked thoughtful dialogue among our faculty and trainees.

Dr. Matthew Abdel
Andrew A. and Mary S. Sugg Professor of Orthopedic Surgery
Chair, Mayo Clinic Surgical and Procedural Committee
Chair, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery Research
Vice-Chair, Department of Surgery at May Clinic

We were equally honored to host Dr. Matthew Abdel of Mayo Clinic, a nationally recognized expert in adult reconstruction and periprosthetic joint infection. Dr. Abdel delivered a compelling presentation titled:

“Complex Acetabular Reconstruction: An Arthroplasty and Oncologic Perspective.”

The depth of his expertise and thoughtful approach to complex hip reconstruction provided valuable insights for our arthroplasty faculty, fellows, and residents.

We are grateful to both Dr. Anderson and Dr. Abdel for sharing their time with our department. Visits like these enrich our academic environment and strengthen our commitment to our trainees and residents.
