Fun Day Sunday at Henderson’s Roll Up Day🎉

-- Weng Lim

Henderson’s Roll Up (aka Have A Go Day) on Sunday, 10 November, was fantastic with a great turnout of eager newcomers. Despite a little drizzle between sessions, the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of those keen to give bowls a go. With enthusiastic participants learning basic skills and techniques, the day was filled with smiles and shared moments on the green.

We’re thrilled that at least three attendees expressed interest in joining the club and plan to attend our weekly roll-ups!

A huge shout-out to all the club members and coaches who volunteered their time to share their expertise with our guests. Special thanks to Bowls Auckland as well for their invaluable support, providing everything from giveaway bucket hats, and sign-in pads to flyers.

Here’s to many more successful Roll Up Days and new faces on the green!

A youthful spin on bowls

On Tuesday, 12 November, Mt Eden Bowling Club was buzzing with youthful energy as Bowls Auckland hosted the Junior Secondary Schools Pairs Day, welcoming 23 enthusiastic teams from schools all across Auckland! The day couldn’t have been better: sunshine, sizzling BBQ, and greens full of students ready to roll.

The event welcomed young players from schools like St Paul's College, St Dominic's Catholic College, St Cuthbert's College, Avondale College, Mt Roskill Grammar, and Rutherford College, creating an environment focused on fun and learning. With two pools set up, teams had the chance to play five games, experience camaraderie, and enjoy the sport without the usual competitive pressures.

In a spirited finish, Mt Roskill Grammar claimed victory in Pool A, while St Dominic's took the top honours in Pool B. Junior Pairs Day wasn’t just a tournament – it was a memorable day to inspire future bowlers and remind us all of the vibrant potentials within youth sports. We can’t wait to see these young players return to the green and continue their journey in the world of bowls!
