July 06, 2022 Final Reminder: CCAMPIS ApplicationsAs a final reminder, Child Care Access Means Parents in Schools (CCAMPIS) applications are due this upcoming Monday, July 11, 2022. CCAMPIS supports 4-year grants to institutions of higher education to increase the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education, through the provision of campus-based childcare services. Funds are used to support or establish campus-based childcare programs primarily serving the needs of low-income students enrolled in such institutions. Modeling and Simulation Program GrantsThe Department of Education recently issued a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2022 for the Modeling and Simulation Program (MSP). The MSP is designed to promote the study of modeling and simulation at institutions of higher education (IHEs) by promoting the enhancement or development of modeling and simulation degree and certificate programs. Additionally, through this program, the Department will create a task force that will include successful grantees and other content experts to raise awareness and help further define the study of modeling and simulation. FFEL/Direct Loan/Perkins Military Service Deferment/Post-Active Duty Student Deferment RequestThe Department of Education is accepting comments on an extension without change of the Military Service/Post-Active Duty Student Deferment request form. The form allows borrowers to request a military service deferment and/or post-active duty student deferment and provides the loan holder with the information needed to determine whether the borrower meets the applicable deferment eligibility requirements. Proposed Regulations to Improve Student Loan Relief ProgramsThe Department of Education released proposed regulations aimed to expand and improve student loan discharge programs. The regulations propose to alleviate student loan debt burdens for borrowers whose schools closed or lied to them, who are totally and permanently disabled, and for public service workers who have met their commitments under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The proposed rule will be open to public comment for 30 days once it is officially published in the Federal Register.
