Tāmaki Makaurau win title!Tāmaki Makaurau's wahine toa Moana Stainton (S), Emma Waerehu (3), Virginia Tukerangi-Goldsmith (2), and Rita Bradnock (L) provided the highlight for our region by taking out the Final of the Aotearoa Nationals 2023 held in Te Waiponamu over Waitangi Weekend. After making the top 16 in the last qualifying place, they completed their upset result and convincingly won the Final against the Aotea Whānganui team skipped by Pauline Pirere. It was a well-deserved victory for Emma and Moana (now two-time winners), along with Virginia (Dort), who have been long-time supporters of this tournament. This year, the team introduced Auckland 1-5 Rep Rita into the fold - it was a great win on her first Aotearoa Bowls tournament. 78 teams from around Aotearoa descended on the Papanui Club (Christchurch) headquarters for the annual Aotearoa Nationals, held every Waitangi Weekend, including 11 teams from Tāmaki Makaurau. For the Tane, Taranaki was once again the winner, the team of Hamish Kape (S), Kelly Hill (3), Levi Davis (2) & Kevan Sellars (L) taking out an emotional victory over the Kaylin Huwyler skipped team from Aotea Whānganui. Hamish's winning form continued from the recent Taranaki Open - his team remained unbeaten over the weekend. It was a deserving victory. Other notable results for Tāmaki Makaurau: Top 16 qualifiers:

We all look forward to the 50th-anniversary tournament which will be held on Waitangi Weekend 2024 in Thames. -- Peter Blucher Wahine Toa winners: Moana Stainton, Emma Waerehu, Virginia Tukerangi-Goldsmith & Rita Bradnock January floods cancels Easter eventThe devastating floods of Friday 27 January have forced Royal Oak Bowls to cancel their prestigious 2023 $20,000 Easter Triples Tournament. The flood ripped across their natural B Green and cascaded into their newly completed artificial A Green. Insurance will sort out A Green, but the timeframes of rebuilding the base and re-lay the artificial green means the carpet won’t have had its necessary second stretch by Easter. B Green has severe damage from the force of the water and will take many months to fully recover. Board Chairperson Brenda Bradford said – ‘We want our bowlers to have a fantastic bowling experience, and the flood means we can’t offer that this Easter. We are, however, planning several exciting winter tournaments under our fantastic cover & we look forward to welcoming some of the best bowlers in Auckland to experience what we think will be one of the best bowling facilities in Auckland, if not New Zealand.’ -- Alastair McKenzie Centre eventsAuckland Men's & Women's TriplesThe forecast looks A-OK for this weekend's events. We've got 60 Men's teams and 28 Women's teams competing over seven clubs in the qualifying rounds, with all matches played on artificial. Talking of artificial, Glen Eden is no longer available so those matches have moved to Kohimarama Bowling Club. Click here for event info, draws & results...
