Office of the Provost

Dear Members of the Pitt Community,

As you know, over the past month, international student and scholar populations across the country were impacted by the sudden termination of their records in SEVIS, the system in which visa statuses for these individuals are managed. At the University of Pittsburgh, six individuals had their records abruptly terminated — two undergraduate students, one graduate student and three recent Pitt graduates. Pitt, along with many universities across the country, began working to determine why this had happened and how it might be reversed. We are pleased to inform you that over the past several days, all six of our students and scholars have had their records restored.

While this is extremely good news for both Pitt and universities nationwide, the landscape is ever-changing. We will continue to monitor SEVIS for changes as well as work through our colleagues in global education, legal counsel and the public sector on any potential impact in the future. In the meantime, we wanted to ensure that you knew this good news and to affirm that we care deeply about our international student and scholar populations. We will continue to provide resources and support to make their experience at Pitt an excellent one.
