Coaching refreshIn a move set to energise the coaching landscape of lawn bowls in our region, Bowls Auckland has embarked on a refreshing journey towards a more unified coaching structure. The Auckland Bowling Coaches Association (ABCA) convened a Special General Meeting, to discuss significant organisational changes. Members agreed to dissolve ABCA and integrate its functions under a new committee structure directly within Bowls Auckland by unanimous vote. Drawing in the crème de la crème from Auckland's clubs, the competition was a vibrant mix of familiar seasoned bowlers and fresh faces eager to make their mark on their first-ever COC event. 1-5s unleash their skills at the Fours!1-5s are a dynamic bunch – excited and eager to bowl at any opportunity. With two action-packed days of competition, you could see and feel the adrenaline in this any combination Fours event. Some of the crowd favourites found themselves falling short of the mark at the later stages of the competition. However, the real suspense lies in the air as we await the Final between F Te Whare, H Brown, N Prendiville, and B Hunter from Blockhouse Bay, and D Gordon, R Powell, R Randeniya and P McConnell from Royal Oak. Who will emerge victorious and claim the title? We'll keep you posted on the match date once it's confirmed. The New Lynn Bowling Club is delighted to introduce Aggie Motu as their new Club Manager! With her extensive experience in administration and a proven track record of achieving results, Aggie is the perfect fit for the club. With top-notch interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task, and her dedication to smooth and efficient implementation align perfectly with the club's goals. Aggie officially began her duties this week, with interim club manager Craig Pryor assisting in the transition period. The three-day clash will take place at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club on 9-11 May, with the opening ceremony setting the tone on Thursday at 9:00 am. New Zealand has had a stranglehold on the Henselite Trophy for over a decade now, with Australia’s last victories dating back to 2009 and 2011. While the Mat Blacks have enjoyed some big wins in the past, the two most recent tests have come down to the wire. 35-31 and 34-32 were the final scores in Ballarat (2022) and Invercargill (2019), and a similar scoreline can be expected again. Mac Elliott ClassicThe annual Mac Elliot Classic was held last weekend, with 24 teams from all around the place coming along to compete. We invite anyone who has won a club Junior Singles title under any of these conditions to take part:
The format will be a straight knock-out. Any byes will be disposed of in the first round. Matches will be a race to 21, with no time limit. Depending on entries, sections of the competition may be played at other clubs in the Auckland area. This will be advised in due course. If we have more than 16 entries, three matches will be played on Saturday and a Finals Day will be held at Auckland Bowling Club on Sunday 26 May. If there are 16 or fewer entries, the tournament will be completed on Saturday 25 May. Entry is $20 per player, payable on the day, and all players will be asked to bring a marker.
