At seven months pregnant, Victoria Bennett was looking forward to motherhood but then she received news that changed everything. Her sister had died in a canoeing accident. Five years later, struggling with grief, the demands of being a parent-carer, and the impact of austerity, life feels different to the future she had imagined. Stone by stone, seed by seed, All My Wild Mothers is the story of how life grows, not in spite of what is broken, but because of it. To what extent are the crises of the last ten years partly the result of fundamental divides and inequalities in the geography of England? How did the North become a place of lost potential and broken dreams? And what can be done to make it one of the most dynamic and forward-looking places in the world once again? A native Northerner himself, Alex Niven considers all these questions and more in The North Will Rise Again. Spring 1937: Teresa is evacuated to London in the wake of the Guernica bombing. Autumn 2020: Corrine, an emergency dispatcher, receives a call from a distressed woman named Mary. But when the ambulance arrives at the address, Mary is nowhere to be found... The Secrets of Rochester Place by Iris Costello is an emotive and spellbinding story of two people, separated by time, yet connected through an enchanting Georgian house and the secrets within its walls. Lady's Well is a fast-paced whodunnit set against the Northumbrian landscape. In the village of Holystone, the ancient waters of Lady’s Well begin to run red. Surely, it’s just a nasty Halloween prank, nothing more. But when the whole village suffers poisoning and a man turns up dead, it seems something more sinister is at play. In the close-knit community, rumours and accusations run wild. With so many potential motives and countless opportunities, LJ Ross returns to the one man who can solve this mystery. In Little Stars is the story of two families divided by hate and a love that will not die by Linda Green. Sylvie and Donna travel on the same train to work each day but have never spoken. Their families are on different sides of the bitter Brexit divide. What they don't know is that their eldest children, Rachid and Jodie, are about to meet for the first time and fall in love. Aware that neither family will approve, the teenagers vow to keep their romance a secret. Can their love unite their families - or will it end in tragedy? Love Will Tear Us Apart follows Vincent Banecroft, the irascible editor of The Stranger Times, who has never believed his wife died despite emphatic evidence to the contrary. Now, against all odds, it seems he may be proved right; but what lengths will he go to in an attempt to rescue her? C. K. McDonnell presents floating statues, hijacked ghosts, homicidal cherubs, irate starlings, Reliant Robins and quite possibly several deeply sinister conspiracies; all-in-all, a typical week for the staff of The Stranger Times. Meet Detective Beth Fellows in this gripping mystery by Christie J. Newport. The Raven's Mark follows Beth who is thrown into the biggest case of her career: the brutal murder of Rose Danes. She quickly realizes Rose’s murder is linked to a cold case she investigated two years previously. Both victims were branded with the image of a raven. Beth finds herself in a race against time to stop the killer before he can kill again. She’s breaking all the rules to play his game. But will it be enough? Ten years ago, four students were murdered at the elite Carvell College of Arts. The Society for Soulless Girls follows fearless student Lottie who is determined to find out what really happened. But when her roommate, Alice, stumbles upon a soul-splitting ritual in Carvell's haunted library, the North Tower claims another victim. Laura Steven explores possession and ambition, lust and bloodlust, femininity and violence in this dark and funny YA thriller with a supernatural twist. Julie Houston's heartwarming and witty novel The Village Vicar follows three devoted sisters and one complicated family. When Rosa left her childhood home in Westenbury, she never expected to return over a decade later as the village vicar. But after a health scare and catching her boyfriend cheating, Rosa jumps at the chance to start over and live closer to her triplet sisters. But when her new role in the parish throws her into the path of her ex, Rosa begins to wonder if she's made a terrible mistake. In 1890, Vincent Van Gogh dies penniless, a man tortured by his own mind. Eleven years later his work is exhibited in Paris and his talent finally recognised. The tireless efforts of one woman gave the world one of its greatest creative minds. Johanna Van Gogh-Bonger, Vincent’s sister-in-law and the keeper of his immense collection of paintings, sketches and letters, has, until now, been written out of history. Mrs Van Gogh is a beautiful, moving novel by Caroline Cauchi that finally gives this extraordinary woman a voice. Lena has lived a long, quiet life on her farm in Wales, alongside her husband and child. But as her end approaches, buried memories begin to return. Exploring motherhood, marriage, and consequences, The Snow Hare is the story of a woman who dares to love and to dream in the face of impossible odds, and of the peace we each must make with our choices, even long after the years have gone by. Tender, brutal and passionate, Paula Lichtarowicz explores our incredible ability to cultivate hope in the darkest places. Sophie Parkes' upcoming release centres around the Bill O'Jacks murders in 1832. Follow Millie as she discovers the bludgeoned bodies of her grandfather and uncle, before searching for justice in an insular community where gossip and a grim fascination with the case are the order of the day.
