Tracks and Trails network

Tēnā koe

This week is National Volunteer Week, so we want to pass on this message of thanks from Hon Jo Luxton, the minister responsible for outdoor access.

“Tēnā koutou. Ngā mihi nui mo to koutou mahi. Thank you for the work you do building and maintaining tracks, trails and walkways around Aotearoa New Zealand. This network of trails that you care for is essential for our wellbeing. Trails create important recreation and transport opportunities. They connect us to nature, and they connect us to each other. Extreme weather events in the last year mean that work you do has been especially important and particularly hard. But it is not unnoticed.”

Tracks and trails hui survey — choose your topic!

The tracks and trails network is growing, and we're looking to improve resources and networking opportunities for you and your trail communities.

We need your help deciding what topics to present at the next few hui. Fill in this short survey to tell us what you and your trail group want to hear about.

The survey will take less than 5 minutes and will run until 7 July.

Introducing our new subcommittee

We’ve enlisted the help of some of the members to help guide how we run our hui. We are open to all ideas and thoughts on how to make the hui better, so do let me know if you have any thoughts, ideas or feedback at partners@herengaanuku.govt.nz.

The subcommittee members are:

  • Mark Williams — Queenstown Trails Trust
  • Ian Armstrong — Ōpunakē Loop Trail Trust
  • Ric Balfour — Landcare Waikato
  • Judy Donovan — Pukekohe Tramping Club
  • Nicola Burgess — Whakatāne District Council

Can you spare a few minutes?

New volunteering guidelines

This week Volunteering New Zealand published best practice guidelines for volunteering to help community organisations better support your volunteer workforce. The guidelines offer easy steps to help you meet the needs of your volunteers, including recruiting, training, supporting and celebrating them.

The guidelines are available here

Our next online hui

Our next online hui is Thursday 17 August at 12pm. I'll send out a meeting invite and topic for discussion later. But save the date in your diary in the meantime.
