January 2023 newsletter from St Petroc's Early Years! Dear Parents & Carers, The children have settled back in really well after the Christmas break, and it's been lovely to see and welcome some new faces to our setting too. There have been lots of activities based around animals so far this term - we've been learning about jungle and zoo animals, plus the children have been busy discovering what happens as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, and even got to sample some Chinese food. You'll see some photos of what we've been up to lately a little further down in this newsletter. I would also like to draw your attention to the Nursery Practitioner vacancy that we are currently advertising. This could be a great role for somebody who is trying to fit their working hours around their own children - we'd be very grateful if you could pass the details onto anyone who you think may be interested. More details about this vacancy can be found below. Kind Regards, Tahira White Early Years Manager Designated Safeguarding Lead New equipmentThanks to all of your fantastic fundraising efforts, and the success of our Christmas Quiz night last month, the children have been making the most of the new outdoor toys, bikes and trikes that were purchased with the proceeds from the event. Thank you once again for your support with this fundraising effort, it's been so nice to see the new equipment being so popular with the children. What our youngest children have been up toAs you can see, the children in the under 3's room have made the most of the dry (but cold!) weather this month and have wrapped up warm to enjoy our outside space in the sunshine. Progress check at age twoI came across this infographic the other day and thought it would be really useful to share this with our parents and carers. As you can see, the opportunities to be active, play, have fun and make friends are hugely important in a child's development and cannot be underestimated. Any questions - please don't hesitate to ask. Fantastic new photosWe are so pleased with the photos that Gary from Jude Photography recently took of St Petroc's Early Years. Gary has really captured the caring, fun, and varied environment that we have created in our setting. We've added a selection of our favourites to the website, please do take a look if you haven't seen them already! Keeping your children safe onlineWith children and toddlers coming into contact with mobile phones and tablets at a younger and younger age, we thought it would be useful to put together some information and tips around keeping your children safe online in our latest blog article. Please click the button below to read more. What our pre-school children have been up toHere's a few snaps of our pre-school children having fun this month, busily working together to explore, experiment and create. All very important skills to learn in preparation for moving on to big school! The importance of potty trainingI thought I would share the below video with you, which has some excellent tips for potty training your child. Chief Inspector Amanda Spielman recently wrote an article regarding children going up to Reception class in nappies, meaning that teachers are being taken away from the things they should be doing, for example teaching children phonics in preparation for reading, but instead are having to take time out and change nappies. We will do our best to support your child whilst potty training, and we can offer tips and ideas so please don't be afraid to ask. Our telephone lineAlso our phone line is back in working order - the number for the setting is 01288 389832. Thank you to all the parents for their understanding and patience regarding this matter. |
