Bach Akademie Australia’s The Art of Violin, celebrates the brilliance of the Baroque violin concerto. Featuring masterworks by Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, and Leclair, this dazzling program showcases the virtuosity of Artistic Director Madeleine Easton, alongside Rafael Font and Simone Slattery. A must for violin enthusiasts, it promises an unforgettable journey through the golden age of Baroque string artistry. At the end of the 17th century, the violin as we know it was born, with Stradivarius amongst others creating masterful instruments that continue to be played today. Italy was alive with
excitement for the violin, and this fever spread to its European neighbours, with the Baroque violin concerto serving as stimulus for both violin technique and repertoire development, raising the profile of both performer and composer and rivalling opera in popularity.

The Brandenburg presents a powerful celebration of water, honouring its spiritual and cultural importance as the essence of life. This evocative performance features an original work by Rrawun Maymuru, a water custodian from East Arnhem Land, in collaboration with composer Nick Wales. Sung in the Yolngu language, their piece is a heartfelt tribute to water’s deep, enduring presence. The program continues with the Brandenburg’s vibrant interpretation of Handel’s complete Water Music, performed with the orchestra’s trademark energy and joy. Through music and song,
the Brandenburg calls us to cherish, protect, and preserve the world’s water for future generations.

John Rando
Tony Award-winning director John Rando has staged some of Broadway’s most inventive and entertaining productions – from Urinetown to On the Town, The Wedding Singer to Mr. Saturday Night. He was one of the creative forces behind the stage musical version of Back to the Future in both the West End and on Broadway, which he is now bringing to Australia. In this lively and wide-ranging conversation, John takes us behind the scenes of turning a beloved movie into a dazzling theatrical spectacle – complete with a time-travelling DeLorean – and reveals how musicals can deepen characters we thought we already knew. He shares
stories from his early days in Texas and New York, reflects on some career-changing moments, and talks about working with legends like Billy Crystal and Glen Ballard.
